I would have just played along with him until the police showed up and each party gave their reports and the officer recorded their stories.

Then I would really screw that scumbag over when I presented the evidence.

The thread title reminded me of a story told by my brother-in-law. Stuck in traffic, trying to get home, finally comes upon two drivers stopped, out of their cars and arguing in the leftmost lane. Dialogue went something like this:
Driver #1: Why you hit me?
Driver #2: Why you stop?
Driver #1: Why you hit me?!?
Driver #2: Why you stop?!?
And so on, and so on. He was so glad that traffic had eased up, that he didn't want to stop and hear just how long the same questions would be asked...
(BTW: Both drivers were Asian Women... only disclosed so that you can do a proper accent for the dialogue)

That kind of things always happen in Korea. That's why many people in Korea get dash cam. Fortunately, believe or not, US drivers and pedestrians still have some ethics and common sense left compare to other parts of the world. lol

These movies make me feel oddly proud about American drivers, which truly alarms me since the drivers here suck.

Oh believe me.. the drivers in Americas are very close to not-suck than suck compare to other parts of the world.

How many times in your driving life have you experienced other drivers doing below:

1. Making U-Turn from the very right lane of 6-lane street
2. Going straight on right turn only lane where the 2nd right lane is straight or right turn lane
3. Similar to #2, but going straight on left turn only lane where the 2nd left lane is straight or left turn lane
4. Sudden stop on highway from 70 mph because the driver missed the exit, and even better, start to back up on the lane, not on shoulder
5. Stop on the middle of busy 6-lane street with emergency light on.. because the driver has very important matter to take care on the phone and doesn't want to be distracted

Based on the driving experience of myself and my friends/families who many of them are actively driving in Seoul, Korea, 1, 2 and 3 are observed very frequently, at least once a week or less. 4 and 5 happen less often, but at least once or twice in a month.

Traffic officer is almost non-existent in Korea as they have no power to stop people doing stupid thing. Again, believe me, US drivers are fine.. compare to the most from the rest of the world.

If only our drivers here would realize that the turn lane is for stationary cars only. D: Way too many times do I need to turn left, but some idiot is driving down the turn lane trying to merge (instead of being stopped, and waiting for a gap, and going in to it)

Oh, and what a yield sign means. There is a freeway exit on my way home that has a yield sign. The traffic that has the yield sign gets a dedicated time to enter the street because there is a stop light right before on the main street that stops all the traffic and lets the freeway exiters in. However, this is apparently not enough time for them, so they try to merge anyway when the light is green.

wow! that sounds insane. And yet fun, because you could get away with a lot of shit. How bad of a driver do you ahev to be to get your license taken away in Korea??

And to be honest, where I live, (this is going to sound extremely prejudiced but it is proven), 9 times out of 10 when I encounter a scenario similar to the above 5 mentioned, it is a driver of Asian decent. This might explain it.

Unless you kill someone while you are driving intoxicated, you will almost never have your license suspended. Yes, you also can have license suspended if you get enough tickets, but as mentioned, the traffic officer is almost non-existent, so what's the point?

For instance, there is no traffic officer patrolling highway in Korea. They rely on speed cam. And the GPS/navigation in Korea contains those speed cam info, which makes very easy to avoid speeding fine. Result? You can drive well in excess of 80mph in Korean highway every day. Also you can enjoy watching others drag racing in their German sport cars in excess of 150mph with no worry of being caught/ticketed.

Oh, and if you are foreigner, you also get a break even if you got caught, so even better. So, wanna speed? Don't go to German Autobahn, go to Korean highway. lol

I really do think there is something wrong with Russia, it disproportionately represents the world's suck. Those insurance scams are good, I'd like to invite the person to call the police and only after that point out the camera, at which point they can be charged with insurance fraud.

I'm really surprised by the couple trying to pull the scam in the OP, middle aged, well dressed and in a BMW. I mean, don't they have some pension fund to misappropriate funds from?

Wow...

Can someone recommend a good dashcam, purchasable in the US?

Ideally it would be 12v and automatically turns on... IE I start my car, recording starts, holds 1-2 hours and auto rolls over video.

It's not really a scam, at least not in the same sense as the Russian one. In the BMW one the woman is flat out psycho. She also 'rules' her marriage, relationship so the husband just goes along with whatever.

There is no place in society for people like this.

I'm exaggerating a bit, but depending on the state, there is a limit to the distance you can travel in one (a few hundred feet). They're for turning in to or out of traffic. People around here all to often drive far too long down them, and this is extremely dangerous (as they are two-direction lanes). They're not there for you to drive down until you can merge, and that's the behavior that I'm talking about.

Here was the first note I found in a NC driver's handbook.

http://www.ncdot.gov/download/dmv/handbooks_NCDL_English.pdf
(numbered page 76, not pdf page 76)

____
On certain multi-lane highways, a special center lane is
reserved exclusively for two-way left-turn movements in both directions. The
two-way left-turn lane must not be used for passing another vehicle or for the

purpose of merging into traffic.
____

For my state (tn): http://www.tn.gov/safety/dlhandbook/DL_Manual2011.pdf

_____
You may turn from a side street or driveway into a shared
center turn lane, stop, and wait for traffic to clear before
merging into traffic in the lane immediately to the right. Make
sure the center turn lane is clear in both directions and then

turn into the lane when it is safe.
