You have to register as a sex offender if you get caught for having sex with a prostitute in many states??? Really??? I think that's stupid. Getting thrown into the same mold as rapists and child molesters is stupid. Some guy wanting to relieve some stress isn't the same as a molester. This is a disclaimer for Trident.

Well, I have never used a hooker in America, and havent used a hooker in Europe for about 10 years, so this really doesnt apply to me.

Having said that, I think its bullshit. They should just legalize prostitution and regulate the shit out of it.

The worst? Public urination. In some states that is "indecent exposure" and a sex offense. Most states' "sex offender" laws are poorly defined and the reporting requirements are a mess. Not only is it terrible for many a poor soul that's made a stupid (non-pathological) mistake, but it accounts for wasted law enforcement resources. Keeping track of all of those false positives can be expensive.

Really, the only people who should be classified as "sex offenders" are rapists and >21 year olds who fuck 17 year olds or younger.

Wow that's lame. America is so conservative on issues like this - why should prostitution be illegal anyway? Just another way for the government to control your life and what you do with your own body behind your own closed doors.

Oh and 21 is really arbitrary.

Usually, high class prostitution is fine, ethically, but once the money per sexual contact starts inching down to "working class" attainable, the prostitutes are less and less likely to be willing participants.

How do you legislate a system where the high class hookers who willingly turn tricks are legal, but the lower class ones who've been manipulated into their situation are illegal?

The best solution I've seen for it, though, is to try to go after pimps.

Yeah, 21 is arbitrary, but I think you have to give a pretty big age gap, just to make sure. Being labeled as a sex offender is such a huge deal, fucking up your life permanently, that the state should be absolutely sure that the perp is evil labeling them as such.

Sexual assault, molestation, and a generous definition of statutory rape should be the only crimes that warrant the extraordinary state actions put in place by sex crime legislation. Pissing in public shouldn't ruin your life.

Because even legal prostitution leads to shitty looking cities, just look at Amsterdam. Not to mention the fact those guys have a massive attitude problem.

Usually when one is listed a child molester, they actually raped the child not just molested them.
Even against an adult that would sexual assault and would end up on the list anyways.

Have you ever been to Amsterdam? The redlight district is a very small, not THAT dirty, section of an otherwise beautiful city. I bet the 10 best large cities in America have multiple MUCH worse sections in them than Amsterdam's redlight district.

Won't ever happen because politicians always want to be seen as being tough on crime. Hence all the zero tolerance bullshit.
