I dunno, there were a few people from hot deals who ordered laptops from gps computers even after repeated warnings that they weren't going to get it. In addition to that, it had poor reseller ratings. Some even bought as much as 7!

Yeah, but jesus...it's sooo obvious. Dual processor laptops? With 4.5 GB of RAM? 480 GB HD? For $650???????

AT Moderator just locked the thread in hot deals.

Dual P-IV Xeon laptop? 480 GB hard drive? I was laughing.

I at first thought it was a joke. Damn fools and their money. . . Wishing upon a star, as someone over there said.

This is not a scam, why are you all so skeptical? I make Xeons in my garage all the time. All you need is some common household items like epoxy. You first start by sniffing the glue, then...

It can't really be a scam, since its configured in such a way to make it totally unrealistic (hence no one would buy it.) Also, as mentioned, they included a toll free number, which must cost them something to implement. So, the only people that are losing out is themselves.

Awww shucks, looks like I missed out on yet another hot deal... I really needed a laptop with over 3GB of RAM and this would have been perfect ;)

" So, I decided to give the tech support line a call and ask them about their systems. I told the guy that I work for an MIS department, build my own machines, and I never heard of a 480GB HD. I said I went to every HD manufacturers web site and couldn't find anything larger than 160GB. He told me that he's surprised that I haven't. The reason why? Well, it seems that in addition to free broadband, they build their own hard drives and that they have dibs on this brand new platter technology.

Well, I then went on to ask him about the Xeon procs, and he told me that the way they can get such speed is because- and follow me closely here- they also build their own processors, and through a combination of hardware and software apps they are able to optimize them.

I asked him if they have their own fabrication facility for the chips, and if they license the design from Intel. Again he mumbled something about it being built into the software and they don't need a license...

At this point I was trying so hard not to laugh. Finally, I asked him how they can use Xeon procs in a notebook. Again he mentioned their magical processing plant, optimized software, and some other nonsense.

I asked him to send me some more detailed specs on their systems and he agreed to. Throughout the call, by the way, he kept exclaiming how surprised he was that for an MIS guy I never heard of such technological advances.

It's also somewhat amusing to think that someday in the future, similar specs at that price point would be reasonable.

Ten years ago, someone talking about "512 MB RAM" would have been shown only raised eyebrows, and measuring clock speeds in anything other than MHz was science fiction.

So this is not a scam as long as your parts are on back order until the technology is developed and mass produced to those price levels....heh you're in for a long wait, better grab a snickers. (the candy bar, not to be confused with the 'other' snickers this thread is getting)
