: You have been forbidden to post/reply or edit a message in these forums -WHY??

I installed a free 1000 hour trial of AOL 7.0 on my home PC on Monday night as a temporary measure to finding a new ISP after being booted from the Netzero Platinum (Unlimited!) service for overuse 😉

However, whenever I try to repost to these Forums I get the

message. :disgust:

I'm writing this message at work on my laptop and can only assume that it is due to installing AOL on my home PC.
Why would one get banned from posting due to using AOL - even although all my e-mail addresses etc are the same as this account and do not use any of the AOL details?

Any ideas? 🙁

<< 4. In addition to the above, all of AOL's system is banned from the forums; this includes their IP addresses. This means that even if you sign up with a different E-mail address, you will not be able to post if you connect to the internet using their service. >>

Well I guess I should have read the forum issues then huh? 😱

I'd still like to know why you can't post using the AOL ISP though?

AOL refuses to take action against its members when they troll on this board or rip people off. Thus, all of AOL's ip ranges have been banned from posting on this forum. When AOL decides to get off their ass then maybe AOL people can post again. This has gone on for years though, so don't hold your breath.

I wonder if this will also apply to the new Walmart Connect service which also uses part of AOL I beleive - basically I want a cheapo ISP (dial up) for general use 😉

If it uses the same ip range as aol, then yes, you will not be able to use the forums.

There are many low cost ISP's out there that may be local to you, offer stripped down service, etc. I saw one for $9/mo that offered no email/news/etc, just dialup access. Head over to 56k.com and search for ISP's in your area. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding an affordable one.

MrBond,
Thanks for the tip on cheap ISP's.

I'll check that out asap - I'm going to get broadband at some point very soon (at home) but I like to be able to access the net at work outwith the company server also - cheers 😀

I can attest to the very intrusive nature of AOL. When another application interferes with its installs, short of a major registry overhaul, there is little to do but reload. As a tech, I HATE AOL and couldn't recommend it to my worse enemy.

should really get broadband if its available in your area. its worth it. for just 17 bucks more than AOL a month, you get always on high speed (I have a cable which i think is better than dsl) ...

I prefer SDSL to cable, though I'm using cable at this time. DSL speed really depends on your distance from the node. The problem with cable is the midday slow down.

netzero.net is another isp to consider that is free for 10 hrs a month though . if you want more then you will need to pay for thier service

Yeah I can get RoadRunner (Time Warner) in my area (Lakeland, FL) but to be honest I'm considering just using dial up to avoid spending way too much time online at home instead of going out and doing something in the real world - I had a 1.5mbps ADSL connection when I lived in Hong Kong and I spent so much time online it was ridiculous.

At least with dial up you "can" get fed up waiting on things to happen and go and do something different 😉

As soon as I get broadband I'll be back to playing Counterstrike for 3-4 hours a day 🙁
