You have $300 to spend for headphones...what do you get?

Friend wants to know what headphones to get for about $300. Mainly used for listening to lectures. Need to be comfortable and have good noise cancellation properties. He told me some friends recommended the Bose QuietComfort 15, and I said I'd try to help because usually people with experience dislike Bose (overpriced is the usual complaint I see). Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Last time I tried listening to a book, I couldn't hear anything. I put my ear right up to the page too.

Probably something wireless. Absolutely 100% of all of my headphones and ear buds have failed due to loose connections. Do high quality wireless headphones exist?

Books? Almost any headphone will do, even iBuds. Just have him look for very comfortable in-ear or closed design headphones. $300 is way too much for this.

I'd buy a $150 set of headphones and save the rest for something else.

Not audiobooks, lectures. My bad! I guess the noise cancellation is important to him.

Came in here to say this.

$300 to mostly listen to audiobooks? waste of money.

And then realized the OP's friend is primarily going to be listening to audiobooks which are typically very low bitrate anyway. You have to be dumber than a box of rocks to spend $300 on a pair of headphones to be used for listening to audiobooks.

I'd get some from Walmart, or a cheap pair of Sennheisers, and pocket the rest. $300 for headphones that'll be used to listen to audio books? LOL. Whatever, it's his money. :awe:

Changed audiobooks to lectures. Has to be over ear. Basically comfort and noise cancellation are the two most important things.

Is he looking for active noise cancellation? IE: big ass cans with an external microphone that cancels noise. Or is he looking at good sealing ear buds which would be noise isolation.

edit: didn't see post #18

I'd buy 25-30 pairs of jvc marshmallows. I've tried all kinds of other headphones and earbuds, but nothing fits as comfortably or blocks noise as well for me.

i would get the Klipsche S4i (w/mic) for like $40, as it often goes on sale and keep the rest of the money to myself.
