What's your most likely choice for a weekend fun car? You have a budget of $15K, and you have a nice spot in your garage for it. What says you?

$15k is a difficult price point for a truly fun car, IE 10:1 power weight.

Personally, I would probably settle (keyword settle) on a used miata at $15k.

~$20k will get you a LOT more car.

I think at $15k I'd be looking at a C5 Corvette.

Tons of options sub $15k on AutoTrader, some with surprisingly low mileage.

That's what makes this interesting :)

I say get a good body 66 mustang and put a monster V-8 in it. I am a ford guy so just throwing that out there. If it is only going to be used for a weekend car then that is what I would get. I like the Honda S2000 but they are showing their age now. If you are looking for a track car then the Miata and S2000 is the obvious choice. Classic cars will never be able to get the handling you can get from those cars. Speed yes, turning no...
If you are looking for a fun mess around car then I think classic is the way to go. Apperance is timeless and many have kits now give the ability to upgrade to newer technologies(ie disc brakes, fuel injection, and so on) Just my 2 cents.

If it were me I would not buy a junker and rebuild it. I would buy a very good condition one. Let someone else deal with all the little issues that come up while rebuilding a car. They can be had very cheap if you don't go with an all original car. Anything all original is going to cost some serious coin.

Good luck.

S2000.

or maybe if you don't want something quite as old, a 2006-2007 miata and a few thousand left.

$15k getsyou a 2004-2005 ish s2000 these days.

S2000 is a great car--Honda reliability, super high revs, but if you're over 6' tall you're not going to be very happy :(

Any MGB or Porsche 914 love? You can get something like this for $8000 or less:

Convertible if I live in a half-way decent state where I could have the top down for 7+ months of the year.

Mustang GT 2005+
Corvette
Saab Aero V6 Turbo 6spd 2006-2008
Mercedes CLK55
2001/2 WS6 Firebird or SS Camaro
Crossfire SRT6

If I had to pick -
CLK55
or
Crossfire SRT6
or
WS6 Firebird in Sunset Orange

evo - If I could find one not too beat up for that money
miata - thinking I could get a pretty nice one and still have some money left over
S2000 - 15 should get me a decent one as well

maybe
FD RX7, but I think it would take some time to find the right one

I bought a 73 Corvette last year and am working on it now. Paid $6500 and have more money for fun parts. :)

You want current or classic??
You have good skills working on cars? or will you be paying someone else?

C5. They should be that cheap now. I had one, its a great car for that price. S2K is a fun track car, but so is a c5 and the c5 beats it hands down on the street.

My 2001 is valued at 20k+ right now on KBB.....must be the low mileage. I would prolly get another and supercharge it.....or something derpy like that.

Only a complete moron would pay $20k+ for a 13yr old car that had new MSRP of $32k and invoice price less than $29k. Then again you're talking about used Honda buyers. There are lot of idiots out there.

500whp MR2 Turbo. :p

What do you want to do with it? Race? If so, what kind? Cruise around? Road trips?
