Looking to upgrade from my P4 3.0 on intel 915 board to a dual core setup.

This is my backup system so it only has a thermaltake 450w psu, 6600gt pci-e, 160gb sata seagate, and samsung dvd+-rw, I have (2) 1GB sticks of DDR2 PC-5300

assuming I just want to swap the mobo and processor and keep all my other stuff..what are my options for dual core in the $150 price range?

preferred stores to shop from...NewEgg, Ewiz, ZZF, Chiefvalue, MicroCenter

yes, but I was under the impression that a x2 would be better than pentium D

X2's are better than the PD. The 3600+ brisbane has hit 3GHz on air several times from reports at Xtremesystems. Take a look in the AMD section there, see what boards they used.

Id go for the 3600+ over a Pentium D as well, runs cooler oc's better, takes up less power and the price is probably about the same.
