Colbert is a great interviewer - just like Letterman was. So I think he'll do well. Celebrities will respect him and he'll get a lot of high profile guests, especially when they're having a rocky time in the news.
Everything felt off-script on Craig Ferguson. His interviews didn't feel canned. Every other interview, from news shows to late night shows, feels canned and completely rehearsed, scripted. Craig's felt like genuine conversations, almost never focused on what the guest was there to promote. He would make fun of guests and guests would tell original stories that just popped into their head, or spend the entire time bullshitting.
And somehow he managed to do the exact same show with no skits in the final years successfully -- talking to audience members, monologue, talking to robot/horse, reading mail/comments, interviews, final closing sequence.
Definitely. Sometimes it felt like being stoned was a prerequisite to watching Craig.
He did seem to have a better rapport with his British guests. They seemed to operate on the same wavelength. Especially Doctor Who guests. Seemed like whenever Doctor Who guests appears on the other late night talk shows, they had to devote half the interview to explaining what Doctor Who is, whereas there was no need for any setup on Craig.
You feel nothing!! There is always one like you in the crowd!!Wow. I hope they don't do that sort of product placement bit every night. It was sort of funny on The Colbert Report but that was mainly because they didn't usually try to milk the shit out of it as a separate bit. The Sabra one was way over the top, which is funny as a one off but otherwise is going to get really fucking old really fast.
Oh god, and the Oreo bit was even worse. Plus the "monologue" wasn't even very funny. It was more slapstick than the more intelligent sort of humor we saw on CR.
So far I'm horribly disappointed. I mean they had 9 months to prepare for this premiere and this is the best he could come up with? I feel the heavy hand of CBS in all of this. Nothing makes money like product placement and it looks like they're jumping on that shtick with both feet.

Must have sucked hardcore. Glad I didn't stay up for it.
I smelled it coming though. Comedy Central gears the late night shows towards Politics. The late night shows on CBS/NBC/FOX are geared towards a mass general audience that they don't want to offend in anyway.
Sadly the replacement for Colbert report is pathetic attempt at appealing to black people. I love the host, but he brings on retarded guests with no intellect just to give their stupid thoughts from an average citizen "I care about celebrities. What is real news again?" point of view. If Daily Show replacement sucks, it looks like I'm stuck only watching Bill Maher / John Oliver which are sadly only weekly shows instead of daily.
It was actually really well done. But hey casting stones at something you didn't even watch must make you feel better, so carry on.

Don't get me wrong, I have it downloaded to watch today when I have a chance... I'll give anything a shot.
But for the sake of where Colbert came from (Politics) and where he went to (Mass Audience appeal), I HIGHLY suspect that most politics will be dropped from the topic unless it is inoffensive or so much of a joke that no one would find it offensive. I suspect it's much more of a movie rated G so no one gets butt-hurt.
For anyone that saw it so far would you agree?
It's true. I'm dead inside. The light in my eyes is from radon exposure rather than anything resembling joy.LOL- I love ATOT's reaction to anything new. It's always the same. "IT'S THE FIRST EPISODE AND IT TOTALLY SUCKED! IT WAS LIKE WATCHING CANCER ON TV! NOTHING IS ENTERTAINING EVER!!!!!! IT WILL BE CANCELLED IN THREE EPISODES!!!"
