You guys notice older games are not as ugly as before?

I think that with crysis we are looking at the near maximum of what games can and will look like. After that it's gonna have to be other things that get improved, like physics, AI, sounds and such. A fully interactional world, where everything ages and what not, using different paramets, 2 players could end up with 2 completely different worlds after playing for a few weeks. Stuff like that.

Well...I installed Morrowind today, the last time I played it was about 2 years ago.
I *remembered* it had great graphics.
However, since then I've played HL2, D2 and more recently WoW.

Morrowind's graphics are...aged and wrinkled. 🙁

I used dramamine to get through that part of the game. I tried modifying the FOV and it helped some, but the dramamine worked like a charm.
The game made me feel a bit off at first, but a lot of FPSs can do that when I haven't played one in a while. I find that playing for 15-20 minutes, quitting, and doing that again the next day generally takes care of it. I limit myself at first so I dont' get sick.

I'm playing Far Cry again after playing Oblivion and I'm going through the same thing. Still some great past games though, graphics aren't everything. I even fire up Starcraft from time to time.

I haven't touched HL2 for more than 2 yrs and I never went very far into the game, I was curious to start it up today, wanted to see how it look with gfx options max. It's still looks good, but definitely look dated when compared to Oblivion, especially the textures look quite low-res.

I thought it was kind of crappy looking even at release. It had nice water, and the people looked pretty good, but the textures looked like an incremental upgrade from HL1. I thought it looked more like a high res texture pack for HL than the latest greatest engine from Valve :^/

You haven't played the Cinematic mod yet, have you? 😉

Thanks for the tip  I installed version 2.something and it's a very nice change from stock. I'm currently downloading v4 (3.3gb ouch :Q) It may be worth playing through the game again. I wasn't crazy about the game play tbh, but I did enjoy ep1 very much. I think ep1 was a little truer to HL1 than HL2 was.

I had no intention of getting any more games from the franchise after I played HL2. I was just disappointed in the game. I received ep1 from a gfx card purchase, and I almost gave it away. I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. Ep1 gave me some hope for the franchise, and I'll probably end up getting the next installment.
