I got an AMD 1600+ AGOIA...here are the spec...

AX1600DMT3C
AGOIA 0213BPIW
Y8054480449

The sad thing is this system I purchased for work as a CADD station, and never intend to OC it...

I may play a little but I didn't spend a lot on a top of the line HSF...maybe what I have is good enough...Volcano 6u copper...

I also got a sis mobo cause I hate VIA, and don't want to tech support this thing...I went with sis like my board I had 6 months ago and never had a crash...Unfortunatley it wont offer much in terms of ocing ability...

Edit: also it is in a green packaging versus brown...

if you havent tried a via chipset based board in awhile you might be supprised...
ive found the kt266a and kt333 boards to be very mature/stable/conflict free

nice cpu 🙂
to bad you dont plan to overclock it 😀

got bored???
maybe you can be the first one to do a direct comparison btw AMD and Intel at every clock speed...😉

Duvie, I am proud of you 😀

But you really should have gone with a Via chipset! A KT333 to be exact. I 'suppose back in the day' Via may not have made the best chipsets, but they've got their act together. You can't go wrong with the board I have, an Epox 8k3a.

Well I want to hear how high you can get it... that chip should be able to easily hit 1.8, likely 1.9. If it turns out that you can't OC it much, I'm going to blame your chipset/mobo right now.

I can see Duvie cranking that sucker untill there's no end.The unlocking kit will be arriving tomorrow😀.I just got rid of my 1.2 T-Bird with a MSI VIA mobo.It ran great for me for the 2 years I had it.It was a crappy overclocker but never had any issues with it.

Check this out my CPU from newegg 🙂

AX1600DMT3C
AGOIA 0213BPIW

Any differance between the brown and green? Mines green if it matters.

Now Im wondering if I should unlock it for the extra muliplier settings or just installing it and raise the crap out of my FSB! Most people Ive been talkig to with these chips are just leaving them locked and raising the FSB.

it is really up to you...higher FSB meaning your overall system will be faster...since it's directly related to mem bus too...

BuckMaster - what motherboard are you using?

if its a kt333 based board with the 1/5th pci divider then you may be in luck 🙂

once you get the fsb to 166mhz the new dividers kick in and that puts your whole system back in spec.

Which motherboard are you using?... if it doesn't have a 1/5 divider I personally wouldn't go above 166. If you DO have a divider though, you could push it up to 200 without getting too worried, assuming your ram can go that high.

That's my problem now... I got PC2100... if I just had some PC3200 I'd be running at 200 FSB 😀

Thats the problem Im using a Epox 8HKA+ using DDR PC2100 Crucial Ram. Unlock CPU or raise FSB to around 160 if system/ram can handle it? If you were me with this setup which would you do? 🙂

BTW I still need a PS anyone recommand anything epecial? I was thinking of this one from newegg. I knows it now the best but would think it would be fine?

ENERMAX EG365P-VE(FM). 350W Power supply for AMD K7 & Pentium4. Meet ATX 2.03 & ATX +12V 1.1 Version. Pentium 4 supported ! Compliant with AMD K7. Gold plated connectors provide perfect conduction. Dual fan design of E type PSU and all with thermal control function. +5Vsb output current 2.2A output. Cable tube tied design for neatness. Noiseless & High MTBF. Retail box. Model#: EG365P-VE(FM) $49.99 +$6.00 shipping.

I have some people telling me to get a 400W Truepower? I dont see a 400 True power on newegg tho.

yeah i wouldnt run 160mhz fsb with that board

your best bet for overclocking would be to unlock the cpu and increase the multiplier

as for powersupplies the enermax are good, if you dont want to spend a whole lot the sparkle is also good

Thanks for the reply Boonesmi! I'll read up a bit more on PS's before ordering one tonight. I bought a new Silver Chief Server case and looks to cool with the side window and all but doesnt do much good without a PS! 😉

Bonnemsi is right... you want to increase both the FSB and multi. Right now you're locked at 10.5... if you hit 166 FSB you would be at 1743. Whereas a 12.5 multi would allow up to 2075 (not gonna get that high of course).

Definitely, definitely go with a 400 Watt or higher PSU, you will not regret it. If you're planning on a high OC, you will need every last Watt. Also, you might want to steer clear of an Enermax... they are known to have issues with Epox MB's, having a weak 5V rail (what the cpu uses and determines stability)... go for an Antec or similar.

The XP1600s are pretty decent overclockers for AMDs. With it's multiplier locked, my XP1600 still oc's to 1732mhz(165 X 10.5) rock stable with 43 - 44C idle temps on a flakey A7V333 mobo . Not bad for a $60 processor. My XP2000 oc's to 1750(140 X 12.5) locked with a lower FSB and 50C idle temps. The XP2000 fits great in my wife's new computer.
