I have to LOL at this one.
Asus showed off a quad Tegra III with 1280x800 resolution at the WMC with the promised of a $249.
There was a thread about it and I said that "I'll believe when I see it"
Now apparent the rumor is now dual-core for sub $200 ??? Probably 1024x600 to fit that price.
Whats so special about a dual core 7" tablet for sub $200 ??

Rumors are about as real as pro wrestling.

I'll believe it when it's in stock at newegg.

same here. i find it hard to believe google would not only lose money per unit AND undercut all of their own partners to do this.

I mean look at a tablet like the Acer a100. 7" 1024x600 TN screen (i've had one and this one sucks compared to say a nook color or kindle fire) a dual tegra 2 and 1gb ram + 8gb. its easily $200+ even used on ebay.

So even if google makes something with those exact same specs (which are terrible by the way) it'd still probably cost $200. google isnt exactly going to win love from samsung / htc / asus / acer if they underprice a tablet and have no one buy the ones out there.

i could see the google tablet being basically a kindle fire with a front camera and BT. for say $220. and i'd be ok buying that and im sure most of you would be too. a 1.0ghz omap4, 1gb ram, 8gb flash with a mva or ips 1024x600 screen i think is realistic anyway for anywhere near $200. hell even make it 4gb flash with an SD card slot.

Sorry but if you want people to get excited about Android tablet, release the aforementioned $249 with Tegra 3 and 1280x800 resolution.
Nobody is going to care about a subpar $200 dual core tablet.
The Kindle Fire have already been released.
And if Apple ever release a rumored 7" iPad around ~$300, Android tablets are in trouble.

Umm doesn't the S4 actually bench in line with the tegra 3? Cheaper with the same or in some cases better performance, I am all for it.

I would definitely buy it. Dual core for 149 is fine. Plenty of hp to do almost anything.
Maybe a quad-core would work better. But that would likely be evident only in games.

Chances are it might not be S4 at that price point. It'll likely be OMAP4, and that'll also fit in line with the Galaxy Nexus.

OMAP4 would still be good considering the price, it performs far better than Tegra 2 whcih is still used in several more expensive tablets. I've been very happy with the OMAP 4430 in my Xyboard 8.2

Kindle Fire also has that very same SoC, which is to say... this won't offer anything new over what we can already get. And personally, I am not a fan of ASUS industrial design as of late

Kindle Fire is bulky and I'd happily take a stock Android tablet over Amazon's bastardized Android any day.

If this is Krait dual-core, I expect it to sell better than the Kindle Fire (which is already selling like hotcakes).

Well... tbh this "nexus" tablet could be something different. Aren't these devices that Google has control of/designs and asks whatever hardware maker to make? Asus could still be putting out their own designed 7" tablet but also partnered with Google to make this Nexus tablet.

I don't. How many people outside of forums like this know what Krait is? How many people know who Amazon is and the Kindle? Freaking everyone.

The Kindle Fire could be inferior in every possible way, but as long as it has the word Kindle in front of it it will sell better than anything straight from Google or Asus, just from the brand recognition.

Note that I'm not even saying this is a bad thing. I've never been anything but happy with Amazon's service or products. Just pointing out the obvious.

its like how people thought the Nexus One was gonna come unsubsidized at $200... lol.

YUP. I remembered that so well.
Heck, I was hoping around $300 and I would have easily bought one.
Then the jaw dropper came at $549.
