You guys got a "open door policy" at your work?

I do at my work.

So I guess I could go into the head supervisor's office and tell him it sucks! LOL

Does anyone ever really use it?

We sure do. If you don't like the working conditions you can walk out the door because it's always open.

LOL. That's not what I mean. Open door like your boss and his boss and his boss say anyone in the company can walk in and just talk and not feel like you're not allowed to

Yeah, and for the most part I feel it's genuine.

[edit] It's definitely genuine with my boss, and I do use it.

Nah. You like the most open door of all :)

Like...everyone sitting around and sharing ideas and knowing what's going on.

That's good, right?

Yes. Any door I open becomes an open door. My boss can be really annoying at times, but meetings are convenient. I often talk to him while in the shower or driving. ;)

I should have said before but the reason I am asking is because I have something I want to say to a boss (like...not my straight boss but like my supervisor) but I don't want to tell it to my straight boss.

You guys think I should?

In my experience, open door policies are usually an illusion. Everytime I've talked to a superior of my direct boss (good or bad), my boss finds out almost immediately. Sucks, but my experience is to just keep your mouth shut.

Do you value your job? Is it so big of a problem that can't deal with working there over it? Is it harmful to the company?

If you answered no to any of those... don't waste your time.

If nothing else, try to keep it anonymous... don't tattle or name names, just say something like "Lately people have been really rude to me blah blah blah and I was just wondering if you could help me out here... you know, keep an eye out for it."

Yes, i worked at a job that had an 'open door' policy. I never had to use it, but the environment was good enough that i thought it was legitimate.

Seeing that there are only 25 of us in the whole place.. and 5 of us has offices in which only 4 have doors. We are a pretty tight knit group and are allowed to go in and out of offices. I even call my GM 'The boss' to the President of the company. :) "I've gotta ask The Boss if it's okay that you sign these checks"

that's how it is in my office. it's a fairly small company (~100 employees), so everyone knows everyone. the only people with actual offices are the CEO, CFO, and CTO (the three owners).

if I had some kind of beef I wouldn't feel all that hesitant about talking to my boss about it, or even calling up my boss's boss if my issue is with my boss.

That is the idea however it really sucks if I need to make a phone call or something that I do not want the rest of the world to know about ;)

We do have a phone room for private meetings.

So what...you just go into his office every day and say, "Sir, I just wanna let you know that everything's fabulous!"

LOL
