around 25 years ago I lost my best friend from a mountain climbing incident. I still think about this crazy fucker from time to time.

Yea, but I found him. He went home without telling me. It was a tense half hour though.

One of my two best childhood friends killed himself when he was 18. Think about him quite a bit actually.

Yup, to bone cancer. The "treatment" back then was slightly more barbaric than today. The end result is the same though.

Lost a childhood friend back in 2008. We were close in elementary and middle school, but I moved away for high school. After college, I met up with a friend through FB and he told me the news. Matter of fact, yesterday was the day he passed.

One of my two best childhood friends died a few years back and I didn't know until after his funeral. Had terrible chest pain for two days before going to the emergency room, then had a massive heart attack in the waiting room.

Yep. My best friend for many years enlisted right after I did...managed to find his way to my platoon. He was killed while we were out in Indian country. I carried his body out for 3 days so his parents could bury him.

My best friend drowned in front of me on a camping trip. He was 17, I was 15. I still think about him at least once a day.

Lost a good friend from high school, killed in an auto accident in his sophomore year in college. But you know what? I haven't seen more than two or three people from high school since graduating more than 30 years ago and doubt that I would have ever seen him again if he had lived. This kid was brilliant and had a huge interest in history and world affairs ... I'm guessing he would likely have been a very good attorney, perhaps a congressman or senator.

Another friend that I'd known since first grade blew his head off with a shotgun. Also hadn't seen him in more than 30 years. He had a weird, promising, disappointing life after high school. He graduated from medical school but never went into medicine. Then he was a rental property owner and landlord back in the home town with a dozen or more properties, but went broke from real estate speculations in the housing crash. Then he was a bar owner, and went broke again. Then he was involved in some weird scam that made national news, and ultimately killed himself.

In 3rd grade my best friend was hit by a car and killed. He was riding his skateboard down a hill, lost control and ended up in front of a car going 45MPH. Still miss him, and I can still see the bloody sheet his parents put up in their front window (the sheet was what the paramedics wrapped him in before they got to the scene).

I lost several friends here and there over time.

My Mother was killed in a car accident two weeks before my high school graduation in 1980, I tend not to dwell on things like that.
