This actually happened when the super walmart opened here - the cellphone story reminded me of this.

FYI: EVERYTHING in the produce department was marked in the .xx¢ form, I tried buying something and it rang up in fractions of $ rather than ¢, I protested about the sign saying that said produce was priced in fractions of cents rather than fractions of dollars and the manager didn't agree with me.

Hey, far be it from me to tell someone how to run their store, but if the entire department is priced in fractions of a cent rather than fractions of a dollar, i'm going to have some fun!

I would raise hell for the price, because people make mistakes and all you're doing is making someone get their ass reamed from the higher-ups in exchange for cheap POTATOES, of all things. It's basically one of the most bastard things one could do.

I'd leave that part of the store and go to the canned veggies section. There you will find their house brand canned potatoes for $.50 a can. They may be called white potatoes or new potatoes.

I used to keep a few around the kitchen for frying and serving with eggs for breakfast. I underestimated their usefulness. Lately, I grab a can and add mayo and spices and I'm eating fresh potato salad. Sometimes I'll use an olive oil and vinegar base. These things are very handy and cheap. They keep well too.

I would only be able to purchase 38000 lbs of potatoes since MD has 5% tax.. and my total would only come up to $99.75!

I've been to half the states and 26 countries. I've only seen raw food taxed one time in Washington state, but they changed that in 1979.

The difference between this and the cell phone story is that you have some context about how much produce is supposed to cost (assuming you've ever been in a grocery store before). You're not gonna get a 99% discount.
