Acceleration numbers are slower than the standard non s'charged USDM camry...

Also look at the price, 57k AUD ~ 46.5kUSD The uplevel SL at 61.5KAUD ~ 50KUSD. That's 2 Camry SEs we can get in the states with a V6 that can do 0-60 in 5.8-6.1s versus the TRD's 6.1s.

I like toyota and I love TRD products, having owned a few TRD parts myself, but what was Toyota thinking?

Price is completely irrelevant, thanks to something called 'tax' ;)

Otherwise, i'm interested in what you say ;)

Interesting, i know almost nothing about Camrys, and certainly nothing about other market Camrys, but i would imagine this would be a very different beast to drive from the base Camry, especially with that much torque on tap...

Too much for the chassis?

No but we are going to get the Pontiac G8 from down under. Camry isn't exactly a performance oriented car in the US.

Probably going to be a decent car, but that front end is right off the early-90s grand ams .. only on a bigger frame .. WOOF / BARF.

I bet the original auzzie model doesn't have that fugly pontiac front end. Wonder what the cost of getting a G8 and then putting a proper auzzie front on would be?

It'll probably bolt straight on, so figure $300 for parts and $200 for painting. I mean for all intents and purposes, they share the exact same headlights and tail-lights. Not sure if that's good or bad, but it is the textbook definition of badge engineering.

Of course, it should be a wonderful car so I guess you cant fault them for not fixing what isn't broken.

Probably. 330hp FWD is just insane. I consider 250hp to be a upper limit on most cars and 300 as an absolute limit. I mean GM's V8 SS Impalas and Monte Carlos only had 303hp. I doubt the tires are hooking up and the VSC and Tracion Control aren't helping acceleration numbers. I wonder why they didnt make it fully disableable like on the LS460.

I mean Toyota RACING Development has unbeatable traction and stability control while Lexus's luxury yacht the LS has the option of fully disabling it?

edit: Also, I just read it uses the same 17 inchers found in the SE variant. Tires are way too small.

Umm, It's a Pontiac. Why would you expect it to not have a Pontiac front end. Looks great to me.

Well, is this a Pontiac front end? I think this is much better :

It doesn't *HAVE* to regurgitate that nasty giant double oval thing on the front. That really didn't pop up until the crappy 90s Grand Am anyway.

The Aussie version looks too plain if you ask me. I like American one more. I think you are just letting your anti-American car prejudice influence you too much. You don't like Pontiac, so you don't like the grille. Also, Pontiac has not stopped using the double nostril grille from what I have seen, their current cars have it too.

I like Pontiac, and I have nothing against American cars per se. I drive a Buick, FFS. The Solstice for example looks decent because the grille meshes perfectly with the car. Ditto with the final Grand Prix, it's not huge and overstated, but blends well with the rest of the vehicle (love that Supercharged version btw!). The Firebird and Trans Am are a couple of my favorite American sports cars as well, I always thought they had more character than Camaros and Mustangs.

But, IMHO, the giant grille on the G8 just looks out of place. They could have done the same number they did on the last Grand Prix, and it would keep the clean lines instead of being so .. well .. silly looking. The original Aussie version looks really sweet, kind of M3-lite, and it would be nice to have seen a more true version.

Hell, the G8 grille is much larger and more garish than the GTO, where it blends pretty well with the overall look of the vehicle.

Yeah, the Camry (and the new Accord) are damned hideous.

I don't see how the Grand Prix looks better than the G8. I think the lines on the G8 grille are very clean. The car looks understated considering it's a 360hp monster that is pretty much a poor man's M5. I guess there is no accounting for taste, or in your case, lack thereof :D

Heh, all insults aside, yeah cars are definitely a subjective topic. The G8 to me looks like something that could have rolled off the line in 1993. Of course, I rarely like it when companies take foreign cars and re-skin them for American audiences.
