My boss did the same thing. I thought it was just a Christmas card, so didn't open it until the next day. Surprise!! 😀

I got an envelope on Friday when he came in to tell me to let the guys go early and for all of us to go home and beat the traffic. I opened it the next morning at the bank because it also had a paycheck in the envelope...with a second check which was quite the bit larger than the first.

Either way open the letter. If you are laid off, it's never a good time for that news, but the sooner you find out is always better. If you got a bonus, it's usually best to spend it sooner than later if it's in the form of GC's which many service companies do now.
