Okay...someone already had too much bong resin in their system.
The fact of the matter is anything that gets you high is obviously killing brain cells...and the current consensus about what resin from marijuana does to your brain is no where near close to being "isn't bad for you". True marijuana isn't nearly as bad as Heroine, or crack or what not, but it does have an adverse affect on the proper functioning of the brain and especially memory.

Wasn't it just a week or two ago that they uncovered a dozen or so tunnels into the US - which must have been a multimillion dollar operation to build. Who knows how long those tunnels have lasted and how much drugs have passed through. And that is right on the boarder with 10's of thousands of agents constantly on the lookout for that. Once you get through the boarder, there is virtually nothing to stop the drugs.

They discover border tunnels almost weekly along the US/Mexican border. Even with all the agents and intel they have they are still undermanned and for every tunnel they find there are five more out there.

I say the should just legalize drugs and that would take care of a lot of problems.

Thats another thing I think about, if the goverment is concerned about the drug problem why don't they legalize it. If they legalized drugs that would get rid of a lot of the bad elements in some cities. (no more crack houses, gang wars over drug territory, drug related crimes) Also it would make it easier to wean people off of the harder drugs. Instead of spending millions on drug enforcement that money could be used in drug rehab centers to help get people off of that junk. It worked in China and it worked in the US with alcohol

It is supply and demand. Price of a kilo of coke in Colombia, about $1000. Price of a K of heroin, about $2K. (prices as of about a year and a half ago). Street price in the US is about 25-50 times higher, especially after cutting. Bringing in 100 kilos (only about 220 pounds), could net the smuggler about a million dollars. Many individual smugglers charge the cartels $5000/kilo for cocaine transport to the US. $10K/kilo if you want it guarenteed. They have to make up for occasional losses due to seizures and accidents. That's a heck of an incentive to be creative. How big is the Atlantic? And the Pacific? You would have to have thousands of ships out there just to stop that route. Then you would have to worry about submarines (a drug cartel was caught trying to build a submarine to transport drugs using help from Russian sub experts, and it probably would have worked). You would have to track down and intercept every plane coming from South America (and even then they could just toss the stuff out to a waiting compatriot on the ground). You would have to build a wall across the US/Mexico border and constantly inspect for tunnels. You would need 100x the customs inspectors to inspect every container entering the US. You would need to strip search and x-ray every passenger entering the US (some swallow baloons or condoms full of drugs to be retrieved later). Then smugglers would just go through Canada, Europe, Africa, etc. This doesn't even account for corruption (which is less common here in the US compared to other countries).

China? Not much trouble with drugs there for several reasons. First, average income isn't high enough for there to be masses of coke/heroin addicts. China punishes drug smugglers with the death penalty. Good deterent, it prevents repeat offenders. I don't think llegalizing it would help. The Dutch have found out that it causes alot more problems than it solves. Crack is a bit more addicting than alcohol.

Why the hell do you care whether other people choose to harm themselves in that way or not? Who the hell are you and why are you so involved in other peoples' lives? :disgust:
And if you want to expand your line of thinking further, EVERYTHING is bad for you in some form or another. Just breathing brings you one breath closer to death (not to steal from Pink Floyd :p ).

There are so many ways to not only get drugs into this country, but also produce them here, that they're fighting a battle that can't be won. And you may or may not be surprised to learn that a lot of those fighting "War on Drugs" not only know this, but don't even want it to be won. This "war" is nothing more than a HUGE business that employs millions of people. Think of it as the 4th branch of government.

Just a couple random thoughts here...

Prisons and Law Enforcement - You know how many people are in prison due to drugs or drug-related offenses? Most of them. Do the math on that and estimate how much of law enforcement/corrections is employed by the "War on Drugs".

Weed is a criminalized substance? - Absolutely ridiculous. You know how much revenue could be generated by legalizing pot and taxing it like tobacco? I can't even think that high. And how many people have you ever heard of that have died of a weed overdose? Ask yourself the same thing for alocohol.

I am not saying to legalize everything straight across the board; that's not really practical. But if the Feds legalized weed and taxed it to hell and back like tobacco and alcohol, this country would be a much better place. The finances going to support this silly "War" would be much better spent on education, health care reform, etc.

Marijuana is only really tracked on the local level. Maybe the local cops will call the DEA if they find a big field of the stuff or if it's growing on Federal land (which gives the DEA jurisdiction), but for the most part marijuana isn't on the DEA's radar scope. They're worred far more about extacy, coke, and heroin. Marijuana is bulky compared to coke/heroin and doesn't result in the same profit for smugglers from South America. Ground transport from Mexico is more cost effective for transporting marijuana, but so much comes in from Mexico (and the border is so vast) that enforcement is nearly impossible. Plus, much is grown in the US, whereas no coke or heroin is grown/processed here (climatic conditions aren't proper for coca plants or opium poppies and labor cost is too high). Marijuana is really a different subject than the "harder" drugs. The "war" on marijuana is really at the local and political level, the war against the harder stuff is what gets the publicity.

China got rid of it by making drug possesion/use/anything related punishable by death. Not by rehab. That's so funny that you think that china would actually do something like that. Basically, if you are caught with drugs...any illegal drugs, you are put in prison and killed the next day.

The scary thing is, if they can get that many drugs into the country, weapons/explosives/bios, etc., will be almost as easy.

Darn right. It's just that weapons don't have such a tremendous markup for shipping ($2500/pound for cocaine). Profit margin makes drugs the smuggled item of choice. Besides, it's plenty easy to get weapons that are already here.
