Chris Rock --
You don't need no gun control, you know what you need, we need some bullet control. We need to control the bullets.

That's right, I think all bullets should cost $5,000 dollars?$5,000 dollars for a bullet... you know why? Cause if a bullet cost $5,000 dollars, there'd be no more innocent bystanders.

Everytime somebody gets shot you go like: "Damn, he musta done something, sh!t they put $50,000 dollars worth of bullets in his ass!"

People would think before they killed somebody if a bullet cost $5,000 dollars: "Man I'd blow your f*cking head off, if I could afford it! Gonna get me another job, I'm gonna start saving some money, and you a dead man! You better hope I can't get no bullets on lay-away!"

So even if you get shot by a stray bullet, you won't have to go to no doctor to get it taken out, whoever shot ya would take their bullet back: "I believe you got my property!"

That would be a wonderful idea except...

Thieves and and criminals would steal bullets and the law abiding would be sitting ducks cause they wouldnt be able to afford the ammo to protect themsleves.

That would just open up a large black market for bullets. I like Chris Rock, but it's a dumb idea. Bullets are pretty easy to manufacture and could be done in most any garage. Raise to price of bullets to $5k each and you're going get a lot of people who will want to get some of that black market action for $3k each. They'll start pushing bullets on kids and fighting over markets and violence would get worse, not better.

Been watching Bowling for Columbine? :p

Yeah :p

OMFG MOORE IS TEH DEBBIL

You know. THAT is why I decided to watch this movie. I keep hearing all of this stuff about how Michael Moore is a fat, evil bastard and what filthy skum he is, so I decided to be objective and watch Bowling for Columbine.

So I start watching it, and the first part had a pretty negative slant and some over the top stuff, but nothing to be upset about...

But what really got my attention was the second hour which focused on US gun crimes vs other nations. That and the coverage that violent crimes get in the United States. Violent crime going down, yet TV coverage going up and gun ownership going up.

But what was even more shocking to me (IMHO) was the look at Canada and how this one guy said he hadn't hurd of a shooting in his city in about 15 years or the police chief that said that he's only had one murder in the city in 3 years. Then the fact that Candians leave their doors open.

It just boggles my mind:p

While violent crime might go up, I doubt gun violence would; if anything, it would go down. Even if there does open up a black market for bullets, they're going to be in far less supply than they are now, if even buying them illegally risks prison. Sure, people would probably make their own, or buy them illegally, but the supply certainly would be nowhere near as much as it is today.

It's certainly not the best solution, or one I even support, but I can see that it might very well have an effect.

Geezz...you all do realize that his statement was part of his "Bigger and Blacker" comedy tour right? It's not like he was asked a question on gun control and replied to Tom Brokaw with that answer.

What we actually need to do to combat illegal arms and drugs is to flood their markets. A lot of the organized criminal enterprises have all of their money tied up in this stuff. So if we dramatically increase the supply while the demand is constant, the price will drop so fast that it will practically bankrupt the arms dealers and druglords. Kinda like if you bought Enron stock. :p

EDIT: We should also flood the markets will dulls and blanks... taking a page out of the RIAA book.
