You do network support, don't you? What do you mean you won't help me set up my database on my server?

This guy calls up, & expects me to configure his Access database so that each of his computers on his network can access it. I explained to him that our support boundaries are only to get the DSL working for multiple computers, & we don't support any games, client/server applications, or anything of that nature. "Well MegaBIT support said you guys did LAN support." "We do LAN support, but strictly to get your computers browsing the internet." "Well is there anyone there that can help me set up my database."

My God, these people are dense!

ME: Hello, Data Network Support, can I help you.

Client: I can't connect to (our company's) network.

ME: OK, what is the problem, or why can't you connect.

Client: Well I forgot the laptop at work and I have work todo, I need to get this done NOW.

ME: So you have no computer or laptop?

Client: (aggravated) YES that's why I can't connect to our network. Can someone bring me one.

ME: Your in Vancouver, I'm in Ottawa. There's no way I can bring you a laptop. Can you not go to your local office and pick one up?

Client: DAMMIT the office is closed and I can't get in, I need to connect to the network now.

ME: You will either have to wait until tomorrow or I can charter a Jet to Vancouver but first I will need approval from my supervisor, what is your name again.

Client: click....

I got a call the other day from one of my users, he couldn't understand why if he
saved something on the network directory of the server why when he went home to do
his work watching the game on Sunday he couldn't find either the I:\ drive or his
work, then proceeded to rant about what's the point of having a laptop if I can't
take my work with me, UGH !

Ah the joys of tech support! :)

Since we're on the topic, download and play this mp3: "Welcome to the Internet Help Desk" by Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie. Anyone who has done any tech support will find this hilarious. :)
