We get so many courier complaints. Have you ever had one exceed your expectations?

Thanks, USPS!

Saturday morning, probably in the 11:00 AM hour, I shipped a video card from GA (30263, Southwest of Atlanta) to my nephew in WV (24747). Total cost: $7.05

Monday @ 10:47 AM, my nephew sent a text message telling me he got it and he was downloading the drivers.

That was less than 1 business day. Awesome!

USPS delivers that early? I generally get mail after noon, around 2ish, always been like that no matter where I live..

Carriers have exceeded my expectations many times in last year or so, most from amazon prime.

Canada Post has stepped it up since they realized how terrible they actually are.

USPS

RMAd a motherboard. Sent from MI to CA. Shipped it on a Saturday, early afternoon. Arrived Monday late afternoon. Cost less than $10. FedEx and UPS wanted more than $20 to ship with arrival by Friday.

Why? did they have private competition to worry about lately?

UPS, Purolator (which is owned by CP?!?!?), FedEx...to name a few.

Canada Post have it's moments...delivered a box two neighbors away, paid for express and got delivered 2 days later than normal expedited mail...

I also got UPS drop packages in front of the door without my consent...one time it was a board game on a rainy day and the other time a CPU when it was -18C...

But overall I always got my stuff on date.

I once had USPS claim they tried to deliver something, but I wasn't home,.. at 10:47 PM.

I was.

But, they were at the wrong address - which they've done a few times. Or, in this case, just claimed they tried to deliver.

UPS has delivered at 8 PM at times. But, nothing like the mess that is USPS.

The Postal Service can surprise me occasionally with prompt delivery, but they often disappoint me with their partnerships. I am referring to SmartPost with FedEx and SurePost with UPS.

I have ordered and tracked many items that seem to travel quickly to the regional postal service facility- but then get bogged down transferring to the local post office and finally delivered, usually two days later.

USPS is getting better. They actually spent a lot of money on streamlining their hub and spoke system in recent years to make shipping faster to compete with FexEx/UPS.

My neighbor worked on a lot of their database models...

I feel bad for USPS because of the overhead they have in being the official federal mail carrier. I'm happy gas prices are down so they can get a break for at least a little while.

Saturday morning, ordered a Yamaha receiver from Amazon using Prime delivery.

Amazon Prime guaranteed delivery via USPS by Monday.

Monday, Amazon site reports that USPS delivered package to mailbox at 1:14pm. However, no package is at door. Amazon says must be a mistake by USPS, wait until Tuesday.

Tuesday comes around, neighbor from TWO STREETS DOWN stops by to hand me my receiver that the USPS carrier left in his BACK YARD! Thanks alot USPS.

Most of you have a salaried USPS carrier and probably have experienced some amount of frustration. Now, imagine having a Contractor for USPS delivering your mail. Oh and she happens to be the daughter of the local Postmaster.

That's why I prefer when Amazon uses UPS or FedEx for expensive items. I just tell the carrier to deliver to a carrier location or hold at the distro center. With FedEx, it's free to deliver to a FedEx location, and there's one on the way home that's open until 9 PM. With UPS, it isn't free to deliver to a UPS Store location (unless you're a UPS MyChoice premium member), but it is free to hold at a distribution center.

USPS does have the same sort of service, but they apparently charge quite a bit for it ($11.50 per package).

EDIT:

I expected processing one day, transport the next day, then processing, then *maybe* delivery the next day. Definitely did not expect it to arrive in the morning.

That's not how it works. If you get it in before the cut-off time (different depending on carrier and day of the week), it starts moving that day. Also, packages usually will move for delivery the same day so long as they arrive in the morning.

UPS has been really good for me. I had an instance last year where I bought something from eBay one late afternoon and it showed up the next morning (shipped Ground from the same state). The only time I've had issue with UPS is when they do the "hand off to USPS" thing - our postal workers are not the most motivated and there have been a few times when I've had to pick up relatively light packages from the Post Office because they were "too heavy for the postal workers" (definitely <20 pounds, probably <10 pounds).

If that postal worker has to walk through the neighborhood with a whole load of packages, the weight of those packages adds-up quickly.

UPS has a feature where you can upgrade from UPS Mail Innovations (UPS + USPS) to just UPS. However, as you'd expect, it has a fee, but oddly enough, I swear I've had UPS deliver multiple packages that have a USPS barcode on them, but I've never paid for an upgrade. o_O

Just this morning I had USPS deliver a package I order on Monday night. They were just terrible. Didn't even bother to climb the stairs and just left the package at the bottom of my enclosed stairwell... The nerve!

Really? A straight line the takes me from Georgia to South Carolina to North Carolona to Virginia to West Virginia. I bought a motorcycle right at the West Virginia/Virginia border there with two miles on the odometer and it was way past my 600mi break-in service interval when I got it home (around 700 miles). It takes about 10 hours.

Within the last year or so it came out how badly they were hemmoraging (tax funded) money largely the result of the union being gigantic ass holes. I think they have taken the message that no one actually likes Canada Post (that is they dont believe it to be reliable) or has respect for their shit show of a union. If possible for a while I would always pay more for ups because of how much faster and more reliable they are than CP. But I've noticed some really fast delivery times in recent months from CP and have also found their new tracking system to be among the best in the industry. Break the union and I'd opt for CP 100% of the time now.

UPS and USPS have mostly treated me well over the years. I cant think of any major complaints against either of them, other than the EXCEEDINGLY bitchy and unhelpful people that work at USPS, they just suck.

Fedex on the other hand can go choke and die..............

USPS is a goddamn amazing service when you think about. Most gov't-hating Americans don't realize, but Europeans, Asians, and others that I work with are constantly astonished at how effectively USPS can get a letter from one coast to the next, in 3 days, near-guaranteed, for ~47 cents. This type of service is unheard of in the other hemisphere, and we really take that for granted.

also, the pre-paid priority package. that shit is nuts.
