Teacher in trouble after students don klan robes
Georgia history teacher apparently allowed outfits during reenactment

updated 48 minutes ago
DAHLONEGA, Ga. - A north Georgia history teacher faces punishment after administrators say she let four students wear Ku Klux Klan-like robes for a historical reenactment.

Lumpkin County Schools superintendent Dewey Moye told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that teacher Catherine Ariemma made a poor decision.

Administrators say four students in Ariemma's advanced placement history class donned Klan-like outfits while filming historical reenactments. Moye says students saw them Thursday and parents of a black student complained.Moye says Ariemma is on leave with pay. Reached by The Associated Press Monday, Ariemma said she didn't regret the project, but that it was poor judgment to allow them to film at school.

Hey I get teaching history visually. But you can't have students wearing KKK uniforms, lol. Are you kidding me?

Wait... what's the issue here? I know we're supposed to be pretending racism isn't real, segretation never happened, etc, with this whole wave of revisionism... But I went to school with kids whose relatives are in the KKK to this day

So the school should stop teaching history?
I guess no students dressed up like Confederates when studying the civil war.
(shall I continue?)

The point is the slavery was in some cases so abominable that it should never be reenacted. Same with dressing up in KKK uniforms or Nazi outfits. You can teach history without revisualizing the degradation. But I don't expect someone of your character to agree.

Yeah, some things are better left to reading from the book. Ever wonder why teachers aren't really allowed to take liberties and be creative in their teaching? Because they do shit like this.

So Family Guy can show whatever they want but this teacher can't have people do a reenactment in KKK robes? Both are "pretend" although both reflect reality. Why one and not the other?

I'm sure if this were a black panther uniform it'd be dandy.

Seriously, what is wrong with you people? It's a goddamn reenactment. We have kids playing slaves in plays- nothing wrong with that, is there? It's not like they are dancing around on stage promoting the KKK.

She LET her students. LET. She didn't force. It was a goddamn reenactment.

One is a cartoon.

And? Did the cartoon just appear out of think air or did someone create it? The only real difference is that you can switch the channel if you don't like what you are watching, but it is still there to offend you no matter what you do.

don't re-enact the murderous crap like the KKK... re-enact rosa parks or something positive

I haven't read the whole article but what was the purpose of choosing to re-enact the most miserable white people in american history

I see your point, it's not the end of the world. It's not like she was advocating the KKK (not uncommon in North GA - Deliverance was filmed there for God's sake).

But... she fails on cognitive thinking. Putting someone in a KKK suit isn't going to help them learn anything that a book won't teach them (in this case). A mitigating reason that this country is hellbent on being out of control PC is because people can't handle "sensitive" issues with tact.

But did she just throw someone in a KKK suit? IF it was a reenactment on the wrong doings of the KKK, what the hell is the problem? If it was advocating racism as a good thing, of course it is wrong. Most people these days would much rather watch a movie or see a performance than read a book, and I don't see how this is any different if it is objective and not opinionated towards one side or the other (and yes that's almost hypocritical of the against racism part).

We had some black guy come read from a book "Blood Done Sign My Name" a few weeks ago in our auditorium, and he started a "BLACK POWER" and "WE WANT FREEDOM" shout thing twice. If that had been the other way around, can you believe what kind of shit would have gone down?

The issue of racism in this country is so fucking stupid. The PC people have got a stick up their ass from something that doesn't even affect the daily lives of people. If there are racists, which there are, fuck them- don't blame me or use the issue of them to let yourself be held back. Say fuck 'em and keep going. The NAACP and affirmative action and things like this are what is holding the country back. The moment we stop looking at race is the moment we take a step forward. You're free to read up and learn about your culture, and nothing should be removed from the history book, but the shit is ridiculous.

anyhow.. go be a slave and let white people call you great person and spit on your and rape your wife and children and sell you whenever the fuck they feel like it and kill you if they feel like it

then tell us racist issues in this country are all fucked up bla bla bla

Tell us who hurt the poor wittle white people in the USA that allows them and their children to be whiny punks with no ability to see the horrors of the KKK

What got this teacher all excited about dressing kids up as NEGRO KILLERS... did it make the teacher feel proud to see his students dressed up in Georgia Pride?

So all black people are daily called great person and spit on and have their family raped and sold?

No.

Black slaves did. And I'm damn sure nobody still living today was a slave, and I'm damn sure nobody today is affected by slavery.

Your whole post makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I wonder what in the world they were re-enacting that required the Klan?

I wonder how a teacher of history could not know this has "firing offense" stamped all over it. Maybe she needs to brush up on more recent history, such as the two things that can get a teacher fired.
