i wasnt aware of this but if you want to uninstall the ati drivers including dvd player, multimedia center, etc. the ati video card MUST be installed in the system. if it's not, add/remove programs will error when trying to remove the ati software. i wrote ati tech support asking about this and got the following response.

*************************************************************

Regarding "I am unable to uninstall the ati display drivers, ati dvd or
ati multimedia center from my pc after removing my aiw radeon video
card from the pc. The error message is "Setup was unable to detect ATI
hardware":

The ATI card must be physically installed in the system for the ATI
uninstaller to run.

Try following the steps below to remove ATI from the system. It may not
remove the ATI items from add/remove however it will remove as much as
possible.

guess i shouldnt have gotten rid of my ati aiw radeon before i cleaned the software out of my system.
oh well, i can do a registry clean, etc. but it's kind of lame, in my opinion, to write software like this.

just a warning to those who might want want to keep their systems clean and have ati cards.

yeah, I learned it the hard way, too.
I'll try not to use ATI card. Their drivers suck big time. It seems that they release driver about twice a year.
When Win2K just released, it took them like 6 months to have an official win2k driver.
