You can stop waiting for the Bionic now . . .

Sounds solid...although I wish people would stop throwing and silly buzzwords like "Superphone", "Retina Display", etc. I thought the Nexus One was the first Android "Superphone"?

I am defining 'Superphone' now.

Superphone - In terms of hardware, a device who's spec's are 12 months ahead of competing devices.

I don't think any devices really hit that definition though, there's several dual core devices out there, Evo 3D, Sensation, SGS2, Droid 3, but none is a full 12 months ahead of the others.

I've been waiting for the bionic for what seems like forever. I can't possibly wait another 20 years for this phone to come out.

I was never waiting for the Bionic and I won't wait for this device either.
If I decide to go Android, I'd only buy Google Nexus or Samsung Galaxy phones. All other phones are useless.

how can you have a phone 12 months ahead of everyone else when everyone is using the same basic technology? A9 dual core CPU's are for 2011 tier 1 phones along with nice screens and decent GPU's.

and it's not like Moto or HTC can just make a CPU. they have to
wait for qualcomm and TI to send them samples and then engineer their products around those. the CPU designers have to wait for TSMC and others to upgrade to lower nm processes to improve their CPU's. and so on and so on

with qualcomm radios supporting every modulation in one chip HTC can make the same basic phone for different carriers with minor differences. aka the Inspire 4G/Incredible 2 and whatever it was called if it came to sprint and T-Mo. even that one was just an update on the desire HD i think just like the thunderbolt was basically a desire/inspire 4G but with the USB LTE radio built in and some custom software

Throw together some nice terms by looking at preliminary estimates from your hardware suppliers, slap on a delivery date of 12-18 months ahead of the announcement, and it's easy to then create a "superphone".

At least retina display actually describes a specific product or thing: a screen with pixels smaller than the human eye can detect. Regardless of how big the display gets, as long as the pixels are small enough it's still a retina display. The term "superphone" is quite dumb because it will change damn near every month.

Meh, just the next evolutionary step forward. Nothing to see here folks, unless you care about a phone that is minimum 6 months out and not spec'ed (as of now) much better than the Bionic or SII (if the SII is 4G anyways).

Pretty underwhelming IMO.

Oy . . . a Retina display is simply a high resolution screen, packing a high number of pixels into a smaller space. Its why 1366x768 resolution screens on 17in laptops look like crap while 1920x1200 looks very sharp. So far as I know, a pixel is a pixel is a pixel, they are all the same 'size', but packed closer together to create more detailed images.

Apple likes to call their display Retina, but realistically, any high resolution display does the same time, packs more pixels in the same space to create a more highly detailed image. Despite Apple's marketing, this is not a new concept or innovation . . . they they probably own the patent on it.

I don't know that I'd want a phone larger than 4.3".

I played with the AT&T Samsung Infuse, which has a 4.5in screen. Could be that I'm just toting around the brick that is the Thunderbolt, but the Infuse wasn't bad as far as size. Would prefer it to have a higher resolution display to match . . .

Moto's crappy screens and locked boot loaders can't touch Samsung.

The Galaxy S II is the first smartphone Samsung has ever produced that was more desirable than what HTC or Motorola had out at the time. The Droid Bionic by itself eclipses the SGSII in more ways than one. This Moto Dinara will probably wreck it in every comparison you could come up with given the release date.

It's no dumber than "retina display"...

You're both missing the point. Regardless of how dumb the actual term "retina display" is, it at least describes SOMETHING. Superphone is just a generic term that is slapped on any advanced phone. Given the right time period, ANY phone can be a superphone. But there's not many displays that have a dot pitch smaller than the human eye can detect. They could have called it the "iScreen" for all I care... the point I'm making isn't the name itself, it's that it's describing a set product that was released on a specific generation of phones. You can pinpoint when the retina display became available to the general public, but you can't pinpoint when the "superphone" came out... because it isn't THE superphone. Do you see the difference? Silly name for an actual technology release vs. silly name for generic term applied to any advanced phone. Superphones are always around the corner because by the time it's released, something else more "super" is in development.
