Hi
Trying to run quake 4 (finally, bit late I know). (version 1.3)

Have XFi card. Have installed latest drivers (after spending an age working out which of the several dozen different XFi's on creative's site I actually have) but Q4 insists 'your sound card does not support Open AL' and won't let me enable HD EAX either. Even though it correctly detects the XFi card and there is an openal32 dll in the windows/sys32 directory. Using XP, not vista.

Its frustrating, dunno why I paid for this stupid Xfi card in the first place, and now it won't even do the one thing its supposed to do that onboard sound can't!

Onboard sound is disabled in control panel.

Does anyone know why this stupid card won't do what its supposed to do?

Ah, finally, google delivers a solution, after wasting ages - switch the stupid thing into 'game mode'.

perhaps I should delete this entire thread now.

Locked at OP's request.
