A hotshot pilot who may flake on you at the worst time? Or one who flys strictly by the books and sticks to his lead.

This would have been a better Top Gun quote to start a thread with:

Wolfman This gives me a hard on.
Hollywood Don't tease me.

I'd take the ace pilot over the by-the-book guy... as long as it wasn't Tom Cruise. :p

An ace may not be predictable but the odds of them saving your ass are much better than that of combat pilot with good grades. I think mostly because air combat is still evolving and the books only go so far.

A wingman's job is to protect his lead.

If you can not count on that, then do not fly with me.

The movie critics who claim 300 is a gay recruitment film should watch TopGun again.. so many homoerotic overtones in that movie it's unreal.

I don't like you Maverick..... you're dangerous..

Definitely the by-the-book. I don't care for quixotic behaviors, brilliant or not, when it's potentially my life on the line.

by the book, I need him there in case I freak out or mess up. The ace will probably think Im fine when in reality I just shat myself in the cockpit.
