You-all probably should cancel that Hawaii trip

i went to the big island, super excited about visiting the top of mauna kea and hiking out to the lava

but it snowed on mauna kea and rained on the lava, so they cancelled both things i wanted to do

Snow on the tops of those mountains isn't unusual...this event is just more sever than normal. (keep in mind, they're over 13,000 feet elevation. Haleakala on Maui is over 10,000'.

I bet you fifty bucks nobody on that island has even heard of a parka.

I'd gladly take your money. Funny as hell...if it drops below about 60 degrees, folks run around town wearing winter jackets...including parkas...while wearing shorts and "slippas"

Not much snow but, damn, those winds!:eek: And that's, what, about halfway up the mountain? (Elev: 6191ft.)

We (living on north shore of Lake Superior) got a big laugh reading a post from a person who worked at an astronomy observatory in Hawaii. He / she said when they got a blizzard warning, they all had to leave and drive a whole 30 minutes across a mountain slope, a tropical forest, some dry areas, to the BEACH for a day or two! We cannot imagine driving half an hour to a tropical beach to escape a blizzard!

I remember when there was snow on the ground in 49 of the 50 states at the same time. The one state that didn't? Florida.
