You all forgot about this Notebook

Almost every post is about the X1000, T40, or the Dell 600m. They're all great but how come nobody's mentioned the Toshiba Centrino laptops? I'm not talking about the Tecra series. I'm talking about the M10-S405/M15-S405. I just got one of these for 1700 a few weeks ago and it's awesome. The only problem is the screen which is XGA. The specs are:

1.4Ghz M
802.11b
40 gigs (5400 rpm)
512 DDR RAM
DVD/CDRW (24x burner)
2 USB 2.0 ports
1 Firewire port
SD card slot
Both touchpad and eraserhead pointing stick
Geforce4 420 32MB graphics
Harmon Kardon speakers
15" XGA screen

Other mentions:
I get 5 hours battery life for this and almost 6 hours with wireless turned off
Toshiba build quality
Toshiba reliability (check out PC Mag report)
Great keyboard quality

Every website has given this notebook good ratings.

Wasn't this 6.7lbs? 6.7lbs and it's not even a wide screen?

One of the purpuse of the centrino low-heat design was to make a laptop thinner and lighter because it doesn't require heavy duty cooling. If I have to carry a close to 7 lb laptop, I'll go with the X1000. But I will take this over a 600m though🙂

The difference of weight between the X1000 and Toshiba M10-S405/M15-S405 is just .3 lbs. Like that's so heavy or something.

For 2 months I've been deciding between the 600m and M15. I've done the research and weighed the pros n cons. The flimsy LCD screen, jumpy keyboard, lack of firewire, and 3 hour battery life for the 600m didn't sound good to me. I've confirmed these problems on my friend's 600m. For the price and features of the M10-S405, it can't be beat especially with the Toshiba brand name. I'm skeptical of Compaq's notebook reliability due to consecutive horrible satisfaction reports on PC Mag. I'm going to be using this notebook thru out the next 4 years of college so reliability is a concern. I don't wanna have to send a Compaq notebook back for repair because it just failed on me in the middle of the quarter.

Geforce4 420 32MB graphics, that's the cause 🙂

Geforce 4 420 is not very good nowadays... at least a radeon 9000 even with 32mb will be much better
