I am planning on upgrading to the new Yorkfield's when they come out. The ones that are slated to come out Nov. 12, are those for servers only? And then the desktop will be released sometime next year? am I correct in this?

No, the only Yorkfield slated to come out this year is the X9650, which is an extreme edition LGA775, designed specifically for the desktop.

That's strange, when I googled the same thing: Yorkfield release, it only turned up the X9650's being released on November 12th.

edit: Although, I didn't read every single link. This one seemed pretty credible: techarp article.

However, it is pretty obvious that Intel is in no real hurry to launch their 45 nm processors. In fact, our source claims Intel will only launch one processor at the November 11 launch. This will be none other than the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 quad-core processor.

I read somewhere that Apple was buying up "all" the QX9650's for one of its high$$ boxes. Since the first production 45nm fab just came online and Intel's Oregon engineering fab doesn't have that much capacity, I suspect Intel is still capacity limited.

No rush, AMD isn't exactly breathing down Intel's neck. To date, Phenom is still "Smoke and Mirrors" :p

I had also read that somewhere, but wherever I read it didn't have any links, with any type of verification. Did where you read it have any type of verification?

Sorry, I don't remember where. If in two weeks Apple introduces a new $10K box, then we can both say I told you so. :)

Knowing Apple, it will probably only cost ~$5,000, and knowing Apple's customers, they won't be able to build enough of them.:D

Apple's "cool-looking" hardware and "cool-looking" software elicits only one phrase from me: Euro-trash.

And, lest you think I'm anti-European.. let me also say that many PC cases elicit an anti-American (in the sense of insulting an icon in American cars) sentence from me: The Pontiac Firebird of cases; gaudy plastic-clad nightmares.

There's such a thing as cool-yet-not-pretentious.. and striking-yet-not-obnoxious. Unfortunately, most PC cases.. and almost all Apple hardware.. miss the boat.
