Ill evaluate in january, since these are not only ESs, but they are $1000.

The low multipliers will make most people mobo limited.

I'll get on of those soon. I'll put it under water and find prime stability. pi means nothing, but if its prime stable at anything over 4Ghz, I'll be satisfied. it's 3dmark stable at 4.5Ghz and that loads all 4 cores at almost 100%, so I have high hopes.

poor amd indeed... I'll be back with results, muahahaha.

Phenom needs to launch at 3.6Ghz to compete with *old* Intel products (judging by K8 vs. K10 performance applied towards K8 vs. C2D/C2Q performance). Now it looks like Phenom will need to ramp even higher to be in any way competitive at stock speeds, but the overclocking potential of Penryn is astonishingly good. I just don't know, seems more bad news for AMD every day.

Hmmm...no big surprise, although I didn't expect anything north of 5GHz with esoteric cooling. Again, the best strategy is to hang on to your $ by overclocking those E21x0 or E4xx0 chips. Wait for the 45nm quad to drop in price then re-engage with your 500MHz FSB board. 4.3-4.5GHz range with a 9x multi chip.

I am driving to Santa Clara RIGHT NOW. I will laugh at you both when I'm running @4.2 on air before your late release "ES" chips get to you...

Umm. Esoteric cooling? hehe.

actually, that was a very good usage of esoteric:

a: designed for or understood by the specially initiated alone <a body of esoteric legal doctrine ? B. N. Cardozo> b: requiring or exhibiting knowledge that is restricted to a small group <esoteric terminology>; broadly : difficult to understand <esoteric subjects>
2 a: limited to a small circle <engaging in esoteric pursuits> b: private, confidential <an esoteric purpose>
3: of special, rare, or unusual interest <esoteric building materials

No doubt, the ~$500 model will have an 8x multi, but the affordable one will only have a 7x, which would limit most people to ~3.5 Ghz. BTW, anyone see the last page, with the 7.79 sec. SuperPi, @ 5.8 Ghz?

actually, the $500 model will be 8.5x at 2.83. the 8x model will be $316. The crappy one will be the 7.5 x model since it will only be about $60 cheaper than the 8x and it will have only 6mb cache instead of 12mb.

Oh that's right, I forgot that they were bringing back ½ multis. Man, it's been a long time since Intel used them.
