Yorkfield build

Please give me some recommendations for a computer built around the new Yorkfield processor from Intel. Motherboard (my biggest concern...a good match for this chip), RAM (4GB, preferably in 2 sticks, need recs for brand and/or minimum timings), and optionally a heatsink/fan setup. I'll be be doing slight to moderate overclocking (but it will be running on an air-based cooler w/ a big fan running at relatively low RPM).

Still socket 775. The only Yorkfield coming out this month is the ~$1000 Extreme Edition model though. The regular models aren't being released until next year.

Well, I still love my DQ6's (I have 2) they are so much better than any of my other boardboards on my QUADS, NO vdroop. Ultra 120 exteme HSF (lapped), but on ram I just like OCZ, the midrange stuff.

Yea the p35 DQ6 is highly recommended. Only factor is price, but if you are dropping $1000+ on a QX9650 later this month, might as spend the extra dough to get this mobo as well.

budet please?

however since you are dropping 1g on the processor, im assuming your not going to chicken out on any parts.

Intel QX9650
Gigabyte X38-DQ6
Crucial Tracers or Ballastix DDR2 PC8500 - DDR3 isnt worth the performance increase for its price range.

Etasis 850W PSU. :]

EVGA 8800GTX

as your core parts. :p

aigo, you're out of date on the gpu. there's no reason in the world, even with an unlimited budget, to buy a gtx any more. buy an 8800gt, get the ssc version if you want best performance.

8800gtx still beats 8800gt esp in high res and with aa/af on. Price/performance is a different story of course.

I would wait for the new 8800gts though (G92 GTS)

I would recommend purchasing an EVGA 8800GT OR 8800GTX and stepping up to the 1GB G92 GTS when it comes out. If you think about it, if you purchase the 8800GT and decided to step up, it will probably only cost a hundred or so more dollars. If you get an 8800GTX and want to step up then you are covered even if the new GTS is $500 (hopefully the 65nn process will keep costs lower) so either way you can look at it as a win.

I would go with the GT at this point though.

Thanks for the advice, the Gigabyte motherboard looks good, and you guys must be mind readers because I ordered an eVGA 8800GT yesterday (going to try it out in my current system while waiting for the CPU). I've used eVGA's step-up program before (7800GT to 7800GTX in my current system, a couple of years ago) so I'm a loyal customer with them now.

The motherboard and memory options are the most confusing to me, with DDR2, DDR3, and the various chipsets that are available. My budget can go pretty high, but I'm interested in building a fairly quiet computer with great performance as well, so things like passive heatsinks and low power consumption (this is why the 8800GT caught my attention) are helpful, especially when considering that I'm going to be trying to get a Quad core running in this system. My power supply will probably be some mid-powered (500-600W) quiet unit (Seasonic or one of the variants).

In my current system I have lots of quiet 120mm fans running at very low speeds, controlled by a software fan controller, so a motherboard with lots of controllable fan headers is going to be a good thing. I like my system extremely quiet when I'm not gaming (usually listening to music and surfing the web), but I don't really care how loud it gets when I'm playing 3D games (my attention is usually not on the fan sound at these times). :)

OOPs.. yeah ive been out of the GPU market.

However i have yet to see anything require more then a 8800GTX unless your running a 30inch dell LCD. :p

But yeah if the GT is that much better, then go with the GT.

Im stuck in a delima. Either wait for skulltrail and jump on octo cores. Or get Penryn next week.
