The Inquirer reports:

"The numbers are a mixture of an alphabetic prefix and a four digital suffix. E will stand for TDP power greater than 50W, T for power between 25W to 49W, L for power between 15W and 24W, and U for TDP power less than 14W.

The four digit suffix is related to performance, Intel has told its customers. A bigger number, Intel says will show more performance related features, with examples for Yonahs, due in Q1 of next year, being the T1600, the T1500, and the like. So a T1700 is a 65 nanometre 2.33GHz chip with 2MB of L2 cache and a 667MHz front side bus. A T1600 is a 2.16GHz version of the same thing. But a U1500 is a 1.06GHz ultra low voltage dual core chip."

Explanations for TDP:

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26904

E: 50W+
T: 25-49W
L: 15-24W
U: <14W

E is gaming version, and 31W is based on mainstream Yonah, which is T's. T1700 will be the highest, which will be 2.33GHz.

E is said to be even higher speeds, maybe 2.5GHz??

In the third link they said the pentium-m hasn't done terribly well in the gaming arena, I beg to differ, my Pentium-M @2.4ghz was faster than my prescott@3.8ghz for gaming, and only slightly behind my X2 @2.475ghz. A higher speed dual core yonah will make for a very nice gaming chip I think, it just won't be cheap.

I agree. The Pentium M's have been more than respectable for gaming. If i were going to build an Intel system, i would do it will a Pentium M over a P4 for lots of reasons. M's run on just about 0 power, they run cool, and they are much more efficient than any processor on the market. Yes, they have more speed per clock than an FX-55 blee that. Of course, none of the M's out right now are faster than an FX-55 but i believe the Yonahs could be. We will have to wait and see.

Also, do you think its advantageuous (bad) to wait for a yonah notebook (expensive?) or just get a high-end pentium M single core now. I have been looking at an Inspiron 9300. I know you hate Dell, but for a huge screen notebook, it has excellent value.
