Our school secretary needs a new laptop with a num pad and I'm considering the Yoga Slim 7 Pro Gen 6 16"

Yoga Slim 7 Pro Gen 6 (16" AMD) | Næste generation af Yoga-innovation | Lenovo Denmark

AMD 5800H, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD

There's a possibility to buy one with and without a RTX 3050 the price difference is a little above $100, but as it is purely for work is there any reason at all for getting one with a dedicated video card? Wouldn't it just give worse battery life?

She has a desktop as her primary computer, so this would be for her home office. All use will be administration software, word, excel etc. So, a good keyboard, touchpad, and a good screen (resolution) is important.

Yay or nay? :)

No point to getting the GPU; it'd hurt battery life (if it kicks in then) and contribute both extra noise and weight. Unless she's dropping hints that she needs to decimate some fools in Apex Legends, integrated graphics will be more than enough.

That is what I thought.

That is true, but she has specified that she wants a keypad, and a good keyboard and track pad is also important. The higher resolution screen makes it easier to work with excel.

If the numpad was the only thing driving it, USB numpads are cheap. However, it looks like screen size/resolution are factoring in as well.

That could actually be an idea, I'll ask because she has also said she'd prefer a smaller laptop.

God damn I missed this thread.

I just got this exact model. And it is *screaming*. Its one of those things where its hard to believe they packed so much power into such a little frame.

That is a Yay from me.

The numpad was actually the only thing that was off putting to me, would rather have a bigger regular sized without, but meh.

We just got it, and it seems to fit perfectly for the job. Nice with a 16:10 screen.

Oh noes, my old trusted HP probook 2nd battery decided to finally crap out on me, so I decided that my work should buy me a new computer. So a 2nd one is now ordered :)

I think you’re just in time, the model I got the 3050 edition is out of stock now, looks like the std is close behind(from lenovos page anyway, there is prob more in the channel.), and looking at the pricejump to 6800+… damn.
Still impressed with this thing.

Yeah I saw that too, since it is just for work I didn't want the 3050 version. I was carrying my old brick with some kind of pride, but it was feeling sluggish.
