970s and 4K...don't they have that 3.5GB issue? I figure you'd be better off with two 4GB overclocked 960s.

Question was..@4k will i get bottlenecked by my 3.5g vram or the power of the cards first?

Depends on the game and how much antialiasing you prefer. For example I could run Far Cry 4 fine at 4K as long as AA was max 2xMSAA. Anything higher than that and it used all the 4GB VRAM. Going above 3.5 didn't seem to hurt in that game.

Shadow of Mordor starts stuttering at ultra textures even in 1440p but high textures is fine even in 4k.

I think you will hit VRAM limits first and performance second. If you can live with turning down from max settings then you should be ok.

Thanks for you're Input.I wana mod out GTA5 when it comes out,Hopefully @4k and project cars.Im mainly just be using my 4k tv for games with my xbox or ps4 controller instead of buying a console. Most games ive been getting minimum 60 frames @ultra easy.I think having 6gig of vram would be good for 4k right now.8 gig would be future proof.

I think 6 might not be enough, 8 would be fine. It seems that with the Titan X at 4K they are able to hit over 6 GB VRAM use.

I also got the GTX 970 SLI with GTA V in mind. While it should be plenty to run the game at stock, mods can push it further. Not sure if we will have ENB for GTA V or if ReShade will take its place for visual effects. Unlike GTA IV we probably won't see as many effects and texture mods, more likely is high poly car models etc. That is if the damn game ever gets released with all these delays...

I think 16GB is future proof, but not 8. If you get 8GB, buy it in only 1 stick. Don't worry about the bandwidth, you won't need it. You WILL need those extra slots for RAM on the motherboard in the future

I don't know why people keep going with 970 SLI for 4k when the 290xCF is faster and costs the same and has better CFX scaling. Or when the 290 CF is same performance for a lot less money ($120-140...)

Hell a 295x2 is $600 right now.... faster and full 4GB of RAM for the same cost.

Also why would you buy a certain graphics card with GTA V in mind when we have no idea which cards perform best in GTA V because its not out???
