I've just been listening to Guitar Rock legend Yngwie Malmsein - Guitar Solo.mp3.

I don't do drugs, but after listening to that guitar solo I feel like firing up a big fatty. Man, that's some impressive guitar playing. :)

He's good if all you care about is how many notes you can play per second. For a guitar player with soul it's Stevie Ray Vaughn all the way. Why else do you think God called him back to Heaven?

Is that guy still around? I thought he died along with the rest of those tight leather pants wearing rockers back in the late 80s.

I always thought that Steve Vai's Flexible CD was blunt smoking music. That crazy new age rokker.

Yup, I listed to lots of Stevie Ray Vaughn as well. But it was actually Joe Satriani's guitar licks that made me pick up my first guitar many moons ago.

Yngwie Malmstein is not only still around he played the "Roseland" ballroom (in New York city) a few weeks ago.

If I remember correctly he is a classicly trained guitarist.

Yes Yngwie is an amzing guitarist! In fact he has an album out there where he plays with an orchestra of which he composes the music for! Everything was done by him! Now that's amazing. My Mom thinks it's beautful music and has a lot of feel to it.

I just picked up the newest Yngwie CD and it's cheesy neoclassical but I still love it.

And yes I like SRV too.

Yngwie wasn't exactly "classical trained", he spent his entire teenage life in his room practicing. It was said he practiced 6-8 hours every day for 8 years solid....main reason he is so good.

His family were violin makers.. I think.. He got that trick with hollowing out between the frets from his grandad. For those who don't know, Yngwie groves out between each fret so it dips down, kinda like waves if you can see it that way. REALLY hard to play a guitar like that. I tried it in a guitar store once.

Basically, the guy has ZERO Personality! Guess that's what he gets for living a sheltered life. hehe

I also saw Ted Nugent in concert this past summer. For a 50 year old man he's still got pretty fast fingers. He played a awesome version of Great White Buffalo that was just amazing.

As far as the best guitarist goes, IMHO, my money is on Jimmy Page, followed by Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jeff Beck, Eddie VanHalen, Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani, and Yngwie Malmstein.

Many will disagree, but heh, I'm just a old ah heck. :)

My Picks:

Jimmy Page....great talent with imagination

Jimi Hendrix...technically the best but a bit of a bore..the star spangle banner is awesome though

Eric Clapton...Cocaine and few others worth a listen

steve vai....weird and wild stuff

steve satriani....He has a double album that is pretty cool..not that surfing with the alien crap though

You want "weird and wild" download Joe Satriani - Borg Sex.mp3 and put the headphones on.

Rick Renstrom may not have as cool a name as Yngwie Malmstein, but he sure plays that git-box good. And all you free-music Napster junkies can download Rick without your conscience bothering you (assuming that you have a conscience.)
