This is not a huge YMMV but the first thing you will need is this weekends 10% (12% for reward zone) off coupon for Best Buy, the second thing you will need is a manager that is willing to let you use the coupon early. The Xerox (Proview) 17" LCD XG-71D (SKU 6875232) monitor is on sale this week for $329.99 with the coupon for 12% off that comes to $290.39
I have been shopping for a LCD monitor for quite a while and this is by far the best one for the money IMO. The DVI and 16ms response time really make this one stand out. Some will probably disagree with this but I prefer this monitor over the Sony Xbrites because of their light bleeding on the edges and the poor color accuracy (I had one of those for a couple of days last week).
BTW I originally purchased the 19" version of this monitor but the response time was 25ms (ack!) and also lacked the AR coating. Also, the 19" is rated at 700:1 contrast ratio and this one is rated at 500:1 --it's bogus, they are virtually indistinguishable.
Hope this helps someone!
Edit: I've played HL2 for about a half an hour and the difference between the 25ms and 16ms is undeniable. You will also notice a difference on your DVDs etc.
Last edit, the XG monitors have a shield/contrast enhancer on the front that other displays in this price range lack, it really makes the monitor look sharp and does improve the contrast.
