YMMV - Lexar 1GB Lightning USB drive for $35 @ Target

First time posting a deal, be gentle. 🙂

Originally advertised in Target ads as the Lexar Jump Drive Lightning (USB) 512MB for $35. I purchased one and the drive said 1GB on the drive itself, which then showed up on my puter as 1GB (~920MB) also. Went back and purchased two more drives, both are 1GB even though they say 512MB on the packaging. This was in northern VA, hot if you need a USB stick.

Can you see that it says 1GB without opening up the package that it comes in? Meaning, will I have to buy it and open it up to see if it is 1GB? Or is it a clear package so I can obviously tell if it is 1GB or not?

COLD.... probably just an instore fluke...and probably a pricing error.

Lowest on-line price I find is $77, or $85 shipped

I imagine this is B&M only!

I am in Minnesota (Andover store)- I picked one up today, got the 1G version in the 512MB packaging. It was an accident, but was curious if others got the same thing - and at least one did, so sweet!

edit:
model JDP1GB-100-500

There is a good sized thread on FW about this. So far this is what we know:

There is NOTHING that will guarantee a 1GB in the 512MB package.

You CANNOT see whether the drive is marked 1GB or 512MB while it sits in the package, because it is etched on the backside of the drive casing.

You CAN increase your odds by looking for the following:

1. The original UPC label is covered with a new UPC sticker. The UPC stickers come in two different fonts; a bigger, ARIAL type font is more likely to be 1GB (there is also a smaller, less-rounded font which are 512MB). In my case, all my 1GB were the larger font, but I also got a few larger font packages that had 512MB, so it isn't a guarantee.

2. The bottom left corner on the back of the package says REV A or REV B; in my case, all of my 1GB have been REV B (but I have also received REV B 512MB).

If you like gambling, do what I did and purchase one package off the rack, buy it, open it in the store, and see what you got. At half the Targets I went to, I ended up with a 1GB on my first try so I bought the rest on the rack and they were all (or mostly) 1GB as well. It seems some stores got entire lots of 1GB, while others got none.

OP, can you give us some more info off the packaging? Any part numbers or stock numbers from your 1gb units? I'm guessing they ran out of 512s and replaced them with 1gb, would like to find out if there is any way to tell externally though. Will check my local Target tomorrow.

If only I saw this earlier today. I will be too busy and broke tommorow to shop for these, but none the less, thanks OP.

Both of my 512mb had the larger font and rev b 🙁

I got one of these last year.
Great looking and fast. However, get ready to loose the cap. It get loose very easy.

I had paid a l ot more than $35. Good deal...

Sorry guys, been busy shopping. To answer some of the questions:

- It is the stainless steel case.
- You cannot see actual drive size through the original packaging.
- jpeyton posted some good details about it. Here's the results of mine:

Original UPC label is covered with new one, bigger arial
All are Rev B
