Well in my area there was a deal on the Sony HIGH SPEED CD R's, 50packs 700MB 80min 1x-48x speed compatible!

It was only $9.99! I bought 2 of them! Now i have to finish using up my POS cd's from circuit city that i bought...which are 4x MAX.

Haha, don't expect too much out of those Sony's. I purchased 2 packs of 50 last week or so from Staples when they had them for $9.99, out of 100 CD-R's I burnt 27 coasters. That is a horrible success rate.

I'll stick with my Memorex's, never burnt a single coaster with them ... never had a problem with them. Oh, if you were wondering, I have a Lite-On LTR-52327S drive ...

When did you buy those 4x cds, 1998? You don't do much burning, huh.

Heh, the burner in my old PC is only 4x, so those would be perfect! 😛

I think I'd pay the extra $15 for these nice Ritek CDRs.

Personally, I've never had any problems with coaster from either Sony, Memorex, Fuji, TDK, Maxell, or Philips. I too have a lite-on burner. Maybe you got a bad batch?

You went through 100 cd-r's that quickly?

that is his problem. He burns so many CDs, 100 in a week? Jeebus, give that thing a break! Laser is probably just taking a crap from being overworked 🙂

If you want to talk about quality Ritek discs at Walgreens, then what you should be looking out for are the Maxell data CD-R spindles. The 40-pack (30-pack plus 10 "free"), and 50-pack go on sale for usually $10-12, and oftentimes there will be a $5-7 rebate per spindle. Usually limit 4 of each type.

I've had very good success and low error rates with these discs. Much better than the 52x-rated CMC discs in Memorex-branded spindles that I picked up during a sale at CompUSA. Those are OK for data (thus far, have to check the "fade" in a couple of years), but aren't really that great for PSX and VCD.

CMC is still Crap Media Company, even after all of these years. :|

Just curious, but where are those Sony's made? I know Sony CD's ade in Japan used to be TY's. But lately all I see are Taiwan ones.

Yes, I went through that many CD-R's that quickly ... Work related, trust me, it is not an efficient system in any way, shape or form ... but it is what I have to deal with, so I end up going through somewhere between 200-300 CD-R's every 4-5 weeks. Yes, my poor Lite-On drives soldiers through it though, honestly, I cannot believe the muscle this thing has ... I recently retired my previous Lite-On (48x/12x/48x - don't remember model #) after god knows how many burns ...

i've used quite a few different brands of cdr's

the only one's I've ever had problems with were "hi-val" -- out of 100, there were ~25 defectives
(you could even see the defects... ranging from bubbles in the material, to what looked like rain-drops of whatever dye they use, splattered randomly on the "write" side of the platter)

all other brands have worked fine (on my "imation" rebadged plextor 12X cdr (that I scored thanks to AT hot-deals))
including: CUSA generic, memorex, dysan, fuji, imation, tdk, maxell, and probably a couple others i can't remember

hmmm -- what am I doing wrong... I've never made a coaster that wasn't *MY* fault. And all I use are the FAR HiVal's and KYhypermedias from OM.

same here, every coaster I've made (like all 6) was the fault of the user (me) not the media, and I use the cheapest (I mean free) media I can find and I am usually burning about 100 discs in two to three months time. Why people even care about the brand is beyond me.
