i went to a silly valley at&t wireless store last night to upgrade my cell phone. while the sales person worked on setting up the new phone, she asked me a few questions, one of them what company i work for. i was a little leery why she needed that info, but she said there was a reason. i told her the name (a small but well-known hi-tech company), she typed it into her system. about a minute later she said "yeah, here it is. if you have a business card or badge on you to prove it, i can give you the phone for $50 cheaper"
needless to say, i was pleasantly surprised. between a $50 rebate and this unexpected $50 company discount i ended up getting a $150 phone for $50. she explained to me that a lot of companies arrange some kind of deal with wireless providers.
so the next time you purchase a phone, mention your company name and see if they have some kind of arrangement resulting in a discount for you. i thought i'd share this for anybody who didn't know and is considering a cell phone purchase.

p.s. i went from the store straight to fry's and spent the saved $50 on a bluetooth usb adapter to x-fer data between my laptop and the phone.
