I am considering joining. I need to join a gym as well as take swim classes. What are your opinions of it

You can stop at any area rest stop for free to get the same..."benefits" that you would at the YMCA.

The membership costs X amount of dollars (dont know thte exact amount)
If you really plan on going every other day, go ahead - but after a while youi might not go as much and it ends up not being worth the money. If you like to run, you can go to your local community college and run on their track. If you're really into workout machines... maybe you should go to the YMCA.

Yep, I'm a member. Although not all YMCA's are the same I have been to two in my city and both have had extremely new equipment (couple months old at most). And the pool times for lap swimming were very reasonable. I cannot comment on swimming lessons provided by the YMCA, but I took a few private ones at the Y, but from someone not affiliated with the Y. They were great.

The Y is very cheap (not as good as university rates, but still good) and if it is close to you, then I would go for it. I have enjoyed my experiance there very much.

NOTE: I am a student, so I only pay 24 dollars a month.

Oh ya, one thing to do when you go to any gym is get a pair of shower sandles to slip on after you get out of the pool :p
