this thing is really cool.

You focus like with a traditional scope, but you view on the computer screen. It does motion as well as still imaging. Has 10x, 60x, and 200x powers.

I think our oldest (5 years old) is going to be very happy with this!

A 5 year-old wants a microscope? If an item doesn't have some type of danger aspect my boys don't want it.

BTW does your 5 YO already grow his own hops?? 🙂
 
d00d that is an awesome present! i got a microscope when i was 12 and i had SO much fun with it!! imagine if i could take pics of things oh man i would be looking at everything

I did some searching for reviews and the QX3 and the current iteration QX5 were pretty well received. I bought the scope on ebay (here) for $95 shipped

the one thing I was most worried about was Adam not really being able to see through the eye peice of a traditional microscope. The QX5 shows an image on the PC and of course the images are digital too for emailing to grandparents and for school stuff.

I remember getting a microscope for my ~7th birthday. It was great fun until one day my friend cut himself really, really badly with the little scalpel it came with and we never touched it again.
