"Giant hogweed, an invasive plant that can cause second-degree burns and blindness, is taking up residence in Broome County....

.....The plant is as sensational as its name. It grows 12 feet high or more and produces white blossoms the size of a casserole dish. When bruised or broken, it also produces an abundance of watery sap that reacts with sunlight and causes burns"

After reading that, if I had to run into a noxious plant out in the woods, I'd almost be glad to end up with just poison ivy. It's hard to believe getting the sap on your skin could leave permanent scarring!
