Speed kills coming down the mountain
Speed kills coming down the street
Speed kills with presence of mind and
Speed kills if you know what I mean

The car doesn't really look as bad as you would think for a fatal crash. I guess they didn't have proper safety gear or something.

there is no passenger side of the car any more outside of the seat.

If Jeremy Clarkson (from Top Gear) can barely handle the Carrera GT, that means that the general populace should probably handle that car with great car, or have alot of experience.

Chances are this person is another rich guy that bought himself a crazy nice sports car, but had no idea how to properly handly it.

Combining that with the fact that he was doing laps around the track = disaster.

just stupid to track a car without any additional safety gear. at the very least add a rollcage and a 5 or 6 point harness to a fvcking convertible
(most raceways require a roll cage, 5point harness, upgraded u joint and halfshaft mounts, fire extinguisher and an ability on par with the car you're trying to drive just to get no the track).

im probably going to hell because i feel sadder for the car than the driver.

fixed and QFFT

It still looks like the car did its job and the passenger area is intact. Looks survivable to me.

Passenger compartment seems like they should have survived with proper harnesses and gear. The dash doesn't appear to be crushed into the seats or anything. Need better pics.

the question is
was the driver qualified to drive a car like the carerra which is very oversteer happy at 190mph and not just 35-65 on a highway?

Judging by the amount of damage to the right side of that car I'd say they both probably had their necks broken on impact.

I wonder if that's the same part of the track that Greg Moore lost his life at in a Champ Car a few years ago...:(

Edit-Guy probably lost control at high speed and spun around into the infield and into that wall. Too bad. Who gives a crap about the car? Lives are more important that a freaking car.

Isn't this darwinism at it's best, really?

No, Darwinism is when someone does something really stupid and gets himself offed. This is just tragic. Sports car clubs are fairly common and people with performance cars should have a safe place to run them rather than do it on public roads. They do, however, need to focus on safety almost as much as professional auto racing events do, especially when people are running cars as fast as this one. I think a HANS device and a 6 point racing harness might have prevented these deaths. I'm assuming they were wearing helmets...they should have been required to anyway if they weren't.

California Speedway is a very fast track. I live about an hour or so from it and I went to the inaugural CART race there. The AVERAGE speed around the oval was 243-245mph.

no. darwinism is someone stupid. not someone out in a LEGAL place to go quick,in a car thats ment for speed, doing exactly what you are supposed to do.
