Yet more IBM will buy AMD rumors

"Analyst predicts IBM will buy AMD in future
Just where is the tightening tech alliance between IBM Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. going? IBM is selling AMD's new Opteron server chip, and the two are collaborating on chip-manufacturing research.
Computer analyst Jonathan Eunice of Illuminata Inc. in Nashua, N.H., says he won't be surprised if Big Blue winds up buying AMD within several years.
His reasoning: AMD has designed interesting chips to compete with those made by rival Intel Corp., but AMD doesn't really have the financial muscle to prevail against the world's largest chip maker."

There was also a NY Times article on this. Trying to find the link to it.

Will it happen?

since HP is offering AMD in its corporate/business lineup, our annual buy of PC's where i work are going to be AMD PC's this year instead of Celeron based units

10,000+ units should help them out?

Wow, might be the first time you don't hear, "Why is my 1 gizzilon MHZ Celeron so slow, its got a gizzilon MHZ". 😉

But the question is will IBM try and buy thme outright or like a lot have said, wait for them to run out of money and buy thr key parts they want for the downlow.

Hell I remember when some of the analysts were actually trying to figure out how much money AMD had left for day to day operations.

That would be cool. I work for IBM and I am a big AMD fan.

This is funny because I am the exact opposite, I work for IBM and I don't like them too much and also I own an AMD and I don't like that too much either 🙂~

well, speculations and rumors mean nothing....

amd's flash memory business may have weakened lately, but it's still very strong. ibm doesnt really have an interest in flash memory. amd has no real need for fab space, as dresden is still under 100% util. last i read.
