Yet another which SSD to get thread

There are just too many SSDs to keep track of.

I'd like to get 60-80 GB of storage in a ~$200 price point. I quickly scanned NewEgg and found an OCZ Agility 1AGT60G for $169, an Intel X25-M SSDSA2M080G2XXX for $220 and a Kingston V+ SNVP325 for $199.

Is there any one that I'm missing that I should look into? What would you suggest? Of course I'd like to be certain that important features (like TRIM) are there.

The Agility was $129.99 AR up until midnight. That sale has been going on and off for the last several weeks. I would expect it to return at some point.

As for drives, I would stay away from the Kingston V+ drives unless they are the 40 or 80GB versions (Intel chipset) as the 64/128/256 are new JMicron controllers and have yet to be reviewed.

Either OCZ Vertex/Agility/Solid 2 series drives or an Intel drive would be a good choice, IMO. They all have TRIM (to keep the drive clean and functioning fast). The OCZ drives also have built in Garbage Collection to do the same, even in a RAIDed configuration.

Doh, missed it by a day. If it keeps popping up, I'll wait a bit for it to come again. At least I hit your recommended drive in one of my selections.

stay away from the ocz Agility/vertex imo.i own both vertex 30/60gb but i regret getting them.lots of issue with ssd being lost/file corrupt/bricked at the support forum.
i ran wiper on the 30gb this morning and now the drive is lost also,so freaking mad right now.

I'll try to dig up something specific but the GC routine built into the drives (firmware 1.41 and now, 1.5 (which also has TRIM) will consolidate free space and cleanup just by giving the drive some idle time. Best way to give it time is to log off and let sit at the login prompt for a few hours per week or simply let the system enter S1 sleep state with the drives set to NEVER POWER OFF.

Firmware 1.5 has been very good for the OCZ drives, whether RAIDED or not.

At some point, Intel is supposed to released their RAID drivers with TRIM support (Windows 7). It should be even better after that.

By the way, WIPER.EXE will still not run on a RAID array. Not sure if it's necessary with firmware 1.5 and RAID or not but people at the OCZ forums aren't complaining about their RAID setups with 1.5, or at least that I can see.

GC is independent of the controller card/interface. It's a background task actually being run inside of the drive itself.

Dullard just get a drive based on the capacity you want and price point. If you want 60gb go with an Indilinx drive. If you want 80gb go with an Intel drive.

Try the Crucial 64GB one. It uses the same controller in the Vetrex drives and is half the price. B&H photo has it for $179 shipped....reviews say it is a great drive. I just ordered one for my new Dell laptop...

Uh, the 60GB Agility was $129.99 yesterday. I've seen the Vertex for $154 (60GB) in the last few days. Can't see how the Crucial is half the price? :sneaky:

Aw then the OCZ went down alot in price. Last week when I was looking the cheapest price was at tigerdirect which was like $259 with a rebate bring it down to like $210.
