Yet Another What to Buy Thread

Hey guys,
My system is feeling really dated with HL2 and WoW out now, so I'd like to upgrade a little.
Assuming I want to spend right around $300, what should I get?
I have a 1700+ with 768 megs of pc2100 on a Shuttle AK31 mobo right now (old school).
I'd like to stick with AMD and have atleast 768 megs of ram in the new system.
Any ideas?

PDP SYSTEMS Memory Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 512MB $87

CHAINTECH nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard $72

AMD Athlon 64 2800+, 512KB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor - Retail $127

that $286, so with shipping it'll be close to $300, but under your budget; you'll have to settle for 512mb memory tho (dual channel is not a requirement) unless you want to spend a bit more.

his system isn't all that bad for WoW, iw onder wha video card he has

if he has a decent video card such as 9800 PRO, then CPU/mobo would be great upgrade.

but if he has a crappy video card, the new CPU not gonna do anything

Good upgrade. But you could get the A64 3000+ for US$10-15 more

agree on the 754 and 2800. if you want step up get 90nm 939 3000. it will give you dual channel memory and will overclock better, but those things may not matter.

mwave.com has some decent combo deals on chips and mobos. you might be able to take 10 dollars off newegg for the 2 combined.

also agree on the NF3-250
