Yet another weird browser problem

Soemtimes I go to a web page, including here on AT, and when I hit 'back' nothing happens... I right click the back button to see 'history' and it shows a long list of 'doubleclick' URLs. I go back to the oldest and there's another list full, go to the oldest and after about 15 or 20 of them, is the real history.

So something is loading in a bunch of 'doubleclick' entries. Sounds like spyware? It hasn't been found/removed by anti-spyware.

Not sure if it's related, but other times a tab loses all history - however many pages should be in history, the browser can't go back from a page.

Gotcha...If this is a recent development I'd suspect a flavor of spyware that's not in the database yet and probably using rootkit techniqes to hide itself from being scanned. I'd run ComboFix (now compatible with 7), as it's quick and effective at detecting and removing new variants.

I think I first have seen it for a few months... I'll google combofix to see what it is.

This problem is still happening. Recent occurances I've linked to google - I google something and click a link.

Then I hit back, nothing happens. Look at the browser history, and it is filled with links to some advertising site, one example 'atdmt.com/(link stuff)'.

If I keep going to the history, after maybe 100 pages of that link, it gets to the actual previous page - or the history is filled only with that advertising page.

Running several adware programs hasn't fixed it. But I googled atdmt.com and found a privacy page with a 'beta opt-out' link, which claims you can opt out of 114 firms' ads.

One of those firms is google, most are unknown. I've given that a try just now.

Here's a link to the page, at the bottom is 'about our ads' with the link to the opt-out.

It spent about a half minute 'scanning my computer', and then said I had current ads from 73 of the companies. I did an opt out of all 114.

And this is after I ran 'Superantispyware' earlier today that removed hundreds of cookies.

One of the companies 'wouldn't complete'; I went to that company and it says you can opt out, but that puts a new 'opt out cookied' only good until you clear cookies.

Update:

That didn't fix the problem.

But I found a link that's relevant.

Not east to do though (and that one's for 'vista?')

So, no one knows...

Still happening.

I thought it was the 'browser redirect' trigger, but it didn't happen today until just now, in AT forums, I clicked a thread, and then there were dozens of 'ad.doubleclick.net' pages to go 'back' in the browser history, so it's not only linked to clicking a browser serarh. This sort of invasion should be criminal. It doesn't even popup an ad.
