Alright, get this one...apparently since my neighbor owns both sides of the road (yes, it's a town road, paved by the town, plowed by the town, etc.), he can block it all he wants.

We had an incident this summer where our neighbor parked his hay wagon accross the road and guarded it with a shotgun threatening anyone who tried to pass. We called the cops & they said that he had the right to do that. It took us 3 weeks to get back into town (that was the only road in/out that my car would pass) by vehicle.

so why is he doing this?

umm...probably shouldn't post numbers here, but he believes that I travel that road at a multiple of the speed limit. In all honesty the speeds he suggests are IMPOSSIBLE (think 3 digits), but I will admit I do not maintain the 15mph that he has posted there (wood/spray paint signs that he has nailed to trees).

Walmart does not put up signs for the most part. They will grant permission to cops/cities wanting to place signs but walmart does not put them up themselves.

Even if the town did put the signs up, do they have the right to enforce them? As far as I've been told (by a local town police chief none the less) they have no right to give out tickets in such a situation.

They cruise through our parking lot all the time and cops can pretty much get away with it. Walmart would not protest it.

They cruise the lots here as well...but it's more to deter vandals/theft in the parking lot, as well as to be on hand for the next robbery :disgust:

<----Not a lawyer, but I believe they do have every right to enforce the traffic laws that Walmart sets out. However, I also believe that signs posted must be of certain specifications and usually there is a grace period for enforcement of any change made.

There is a lady cop in this town, who gives parking tickets to people who park sides IN THEIR DRIVEWAYS!!!

2 of my buddies have had them, crazy stuff. Not sure about your issue though, im just venting.

Codewiz-

This is how these types of things work to my understanding after asking a Texas County Police Officer. The only time something is really considered private in these circumstances is when you pay to be there. For instance, in a parking garage you pay, and there for the stop signs really can't be enforce. However, a walmart parking lot is pretty much public domain even tho it is privately owned so for the publics safety I think you can still get a ticket.

I'm not 100% sure and I bet these kinds of laws might change on a city, county or at least a state level. Hope I helped more than others who replied to this thread ^_^
