If a turbo version costs the same as a Mustang GT and makes 300hp, who here would buy one?

I likely would... 300 bhp could easily become 300 whp with 1000-2000 bucks in parts on a turbo car. then there's the e85 factor. Just give me this car with a stock turbo setup and the sky is the limit

Agreed.

Only thing that would potentially hold me back is the cramped seating. My Z has plenty of space (it's a 2-seater) and the BRZ is pretty close to the same interior-wise, but with a back seat crammed-in. I don't so much care for the back seat, but the front would need to be comfortable/roomy enough.

I would sell the Z and get this if a FI version started at 30k. :)

Well, the extra power has to haul around, what, 900 more pounds of weight? That is assuming the turbo BRZ/FRS doesn't gain weight over the current, but even if it does it probably wouldn't be more than a hundred pounds or two. The Mustang would still have the power/weight ratio advantage, but it wouldn't be huge.

Tough decision. At first it seems like the lesser weight of the frs is more desirable. However with a turbo, you have to ask, can the stock internals handle it while flogging it out on the track? How much heat will be generated? are the cooling measures sufficient? Is the drivetrain and brakes up to snuff? Inevitably most people will at least do a ecu flash, intake, exhuast. Will it be able to handle it then? Sometimes fi can be an expensive and a headache of a trade for bragging rights

to each their own, but a pair of turbos > single turbo > supercharger

Looking at those dyno charts, 387 for the stillen kit? yah, no....

421 for the GTM kit, not bad, but a pair to turbos would easily net upper 400's to 500, maybe more

Depends what you're looking for - the big-HP Supra guys run big singles.

which reminds me of a joke... what do a 1000 hp and a 400 hp supra have in common?

they both run 12's

no doubt it's about what you are after. I am referencing a street car, with little to no lag, and good HP potential. Not some dyno queen that doesn't make power till 5500 rpms

That's why you build a 350whp MR2 and run 11's. :p

Aaron's car (from ATS Racing) is making 828rwhp and at every point on the curve, makes more power than stock. It's peaky as hell, but you're not losing power over a stock car at any point.

Resurrecting because I drove one today.

It was an automatic, which sucked, but it was all they had. Two in stock, both autos, which is obviously why they were in stock.

Anyway, put it in sport mode before I went anywhere, and took off. Sales guy knew nothing about the car, kept talking about how awesome a thin-film transistor screen is because he didn't know what it meant but the sticker said it!!! So, yeah, it was fun. Comfortable (5'11, my ass was on the back seat in my driving position), liked the interior pretty well.

You do notice the lack of power in a straight line, you really feel it pull at the top of the RPMs but then you are shifting and you start over again. Though, when we got onto the interstate the on ramp was nice and curvy, as was the off ramp. Lots of fun. A lot of looks from folks on the interstate too. It went from 60 to 90 more quickly than I thought, fantastic smell from the car when we got back to the dealership. A rough first 25 miles that car had.

Enjoyable but not enough car for the money, sticker on this was 30k.

E: I drove an FR-S. Also, sales guy told me he was desperate to sell it and almost killed me trying to get me to take it home.
