The state should countersue for the crime of being heartless moneygrubbing assholes.

probably some stupid jury will let her win too, Just to make the evil giant "Wal_Mart" pay.

If this case is won by the mom then that should be proof that we need Professional Juries.

Meant with no disrespect, even if she lived in a country of no guns, im relatively sure someone who's not taken their meds and are manically depressed would have found another way to kill themselves. This just shows weakness in the system's handling of depressed people, or in this case, the lack of handling.

Easier said than done. Ever lived with a depressed person before? As your reply certain shows so. Depression and other mental illnessses most of the time, have nothing to do with "up bringing".

So stupid. I HOPE she doesn't win, definitely should have been keeping a closer eye on the girl. What if someone went out and bought a knife at any store, and then killed themselves with it. OMGWTFBBQ!!! Lets sue the store that sold the knife. Same thing, she should be counter-sued for being generally stupid.

Ouch. No good will come of this at all. Instead of being brats they should follow the example of the Congresswoman who ran, got elected and drafted a bill after her husband was shot.

Oh, I get it. So all Wal-marts are supposed to keep track of everyone who buys/tries to buy a gun and share it between all of their stores, AND ask what people want them for.

I have in fact lived with depressed people. But it isn't society's business, it seems more personal to me. Sueing Wal-Mart because they, by law, couldn't have the information and she lied on the forms. That seems somewhat not Wallyworld's problem to me.

The mother should have been with her daughter 24/7 to make sure she didn't do anything dangerous. I mean, she was obviously aware of how unstable her child was.

If the woman expects Wal-mart to violate privacy laws and illegally dig deeply into the lives of anyone that wishes to purchase a shotgun, then the same level of effort should be expected on the part of the loved ones of the mentally ill.

I agree, this isnt Wallmart's problem at all. This would set a bad precedent if she wins.

I jumped onto that post as i'm sick of the "take care of your children and they'll turn out ok" attitude.

If you seriously think that "Take responsibility for raising your own children" will prevent this, maybe you need your own head checking.

Well, #1:

Does anybody here REALLY think Wal-Mart should be selling guns in the first place?

I mean, seriously, that's just bizarre.

IMHO, guns would more appropriately be sold at, oh, I dunno, GUN SHOPS where the owner/operator will know more about what they are selling, bother to ask questions, etc.

It just seems to be a "reality disconnect" to have the impersonal mindless Wal-Mart Sales Drones selling something *designed* to kill large people-sized things.

(And before the gun advocates jump all over me - I'm hardly saying guns shouldn't be sold, just NOT AT WALMART.)

We have one, it's called the Supreme Court.

If you're going to kill yourself, Wal Mart not selling you a gun isn't going to stop you. Look around you RIGHT NOW. Look carefully. Count the number of things you could kill yourself with.

See that CD-R? Grind it up into a powder and inhale it.
See the screwdriver? Insert into nose, PUSH!

Should Walmart do comprehensive background checks on the purchasers of CDR's? Screwdrivers? Computers themselves? Hell, you can kill yourself with enough AA batteries. The line must be drawn somewhere, and in the case of guns, the line has already been drawn. Don't sue Walmart for not breaking the law, sue Texas for MAKING the law.
I could go on for days.

this is a shotgun, shotguns are different from handguns..

let me guess, you are pro gun control right? but this has nothing to do with that.. walmart has always been selling shotguns, so your point of why they are selling is moot

the supreme court chooses which case they will review.. and it is basically an appelate court (for appeals)

If raising your child properly won't prevent this, what will? Locking her up?
