How do you make steam install the game files in another directory other than c:?

Heres how my comp is partioned:

C: 500 mb free
D: 600 mb free
E: 1.1 gb free
F: 1.3 gb free
G: 3 gb free
h: 5 gb free
i: 5 gb free

As you can see, I don't have enough space on c: but i have plenty of space on the other drives. How can i fix0r this?

when it tells you to specify a directory to install in just specify the drive and folder you want to install in (hit browse instead of continue).... don't forget to create an icon for your desktop for quick access 😉

have fun

And then I lose 30 gb of SACRED RARE HARD TO FIND BUKKAKE WARRIOR INSTRUCTION VIDEOS.

I've had cs since it was version 1.0, and its been sitting in its own drive (g: with 3 gb free) for over 3 years.

Is it necessary for that many partitions? There's something called folders. 🙂

Negative! This is AFTER I installed steam. I'm trying to play cs but its asking me to add it to this "My Games" list which doesn't allow me to select where I install it!

you should've said that in the first place... anyways all hl mods that use steam are installed under the steam folders where steam was initially installed.

I found my CS by looking under /steam/steamapps/(your email with steam)/c-strike

Alright, i'm in the SteamApps folder, and I see counter-strike.gcf, half-life.gcf, half-lifeengine.gcf, platform.gcf...How do i open them?

don't open those files... those are steam specific files.... nothing's gonna happen. you should find a subfolder with your email address with it... if not then you haven't set up your steam account yet.

even so, you couldn't just "move" the files because you'd lose the file associations and shortcuts... you'd have to reinstall steam into the larger drive and then follow with the cs update

Not necessary. If you just have the basic steam installer then reinstall it with the proper driver directions. Then move those .gcf files to the other drive in the same folder and you won't have to redownload them.

I am absolutely sure I have more than 1.1 gb of space free.

edit: and I downloaded the 400mb steam and cs package.

Just try installing one game at a time... go from there.

Even if i uncheck everything except Half-Life, it still says 0 mb and says "You don't have enough space blah blah blah"

Have you uninstalled all other instances of Steam (maybe even half-life)?
